Basically, as it says. Tomorrow is Test&Tune night at Gainesville Raceway, and I'll be hitting up the track for the first time in my '99 Si, stock B16a2. Of course, I know my car is slow, but I want to give the track a shot since I've never been and I figure it'll be a nice experience, going with a few friends who also have no idea what they're doing. I was wondering if anyone has any tips for running - e.g; launching, shifting, etc. I drive well, I shift well, but I'm sure drag racing and whatnot is a whole different caliber.
So if anyone has any tips, just overall, of what to expect and what to do maybe different than when I'm accelerating on the road, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for stopping by and thank you for your help in advance

you may laugh at this but stage with the front wheels not the back and remember to take it out of reverse if you pass the beams.
guessin you have a stock clutch so preloading isou tof the question, you are goin to have to slip the clutch because it probably wont hook.
leave like y ou are leaving from a red light aggresively. chances are the track wont hold it anyway.

Thanks man, appreciate the advice overall. What exactly is "staging"?
And slipping the clutch, so just what I usually do - gradually (but quickly) letting go of the clutch while accelerating into first?

ok, when the dude tells you you can pull forward, there are 3 beams goin across the track in front of you. you cant see them. break the first beam the top yellow comes on. thats pre stage. a few inches in front of that is the stage beam, at this point both yellows will be on, STOP THERE. the tree will show you 3 yellow bulbs .5 seconds apart. leave as soon as you see the 3rd yellow.
much more than that, you will have to go and try it and see. its easy. youll be aight.

Was about what I was going to suggest. Had a friend in his BMW (reverse is over by first) actually pull it out of reverse but put it back in.

Walk up to the start of the track and take note of the staging area. Where you will have to pull up, etc. Just observe and see where the cars do the burnout and where they pull up to. This will make you look like less of a jackass and you'll know what's going on. lol
Other than that, just have fun!!!

Haha, thanks. So, to do the burnout - I just line up my tires at the water box, put on my E-Brake, and slip the clutch while accelerating? How exactly does that go down?

For you, just roll through the waterbox then once your out of it, stop, rev it up, and let the clutch out. You won't have to park in it and do your burnout in the waterbox. Pull the e-brake if you want. That's whatever you feel comfortable with.

Oh **** look at that 60ft time... LOL
Its all about having fun tho... first time I went to the track I was too nervous... Crept thru the beams and tried to back up a lil but the guy already started the lights...
My friend posted a 13.8 with the car(WRX) I ran a 14.9 and had a blast the whole way... LOL
Being that its you first time... Just remember that you KNOW there is room for improvement... So just aim to be quicker each time out...
You should be able to knock a whole second and some change off that time... Once you get the driving down..

Haha definitely feel the need for more speed, plan on going back next Wednesday. My first match up was against an Evo IX, guy did 13.5s. But I definitely also feel the room for improvement, on my very first run I messed up on 2nd and was pretty nervous but it went fairly smoothly after that.
Once again thanks for all the comments, really can't wait to hit up the track again.
