That track is so high in elevation thats its not too appealing to the racers. Cars dont seem to run that well.
But wow that race had one of the hugest amatuer/spectator turn-outs I have ever been to.
We were waiting at the gates an hour before the track opened and it seemed the 500 car cap was already waiting in line.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Yeah, I understand the high elevation not being appealing. But really, its a challenge right? Just like people brag about running quick times in Palmdale, i'd say the same goes for Bandimere. I don't know, maybe alot of it just has to do with too many races on the same day and not enough promotion for the Bandimere race in regards to the the outlaw/quick and all them guys. Either way, the turnout each year is crazy. Even in the bad weather. That has to say something surely. Anyways, hope you're not discouraged about the bad weather and come back down next year.

Hmmm, revisiting the old topic, looks like I was right.
IDRC canceled both events in Denver this year, and only has a limited amount of events across the country.
The NHRA/Summit Sport Compact series is coming to Denver on June 12 and 13. Though a 2 day event, it's only one event for one of the largest markets for us.
Here's IDRC's schedule from importdrag.com for 2004:
February 21 3rd Annual IDRC Firebird Nationals Season Opener
Firebird International Raceway - Chandler, AZ
March 27-28 6th Annual IDRC West Coast Nationals
Los Angeles County Raceway - Palmdale, CA
May 30 6th Annual IDRC East Coast Nationals
Maryland International Raceway - Budds Creek, MD
June 20 3rd Annual IDRC All Star Nationals
Atco Raceway - Atco, NJ
September 26 6th Annual IDRC East Coast Finals
Maplegrove Raceway - Mohnton, PA
November 13-14 6th Annual IDRC International Finals
Los Angeles County Raceway - Palmdale, CA
*Schedule is subject to change without notice. For updated schedule please refer to the IDRC website at http://www.importdrag.com or call our offices.

We have cut the number of events down from 13 to 6 (Should of been 7) because we felt we need to do a better job of promoting and marketing the events. This gives us pleanty of time to put together the best possible events. We have not cancelled our bandimere dates, Bandimere just gave us dates that we could not work into our schedule. We still have a good relationship with them and will be back in 2005. As far as Summer Slam, yes it is a huge event. There are too many headaches for us to sanction an event that we feel it is not worth it. We have sponsors coming out of that weekend that were very unhappy so we have decided it was best not to go. We are still looking for other possible venues for 2004. There is always a possiblity we might throw in another race..
We are not producing import drag racing events because we feel we have to. We do them because others are ruining the industry and leading the industry down the wrong path. For 2004 we are working with NDRA and are cross promoting each others events.

Could you please explain to me how an event that brings in 30,000 spectators and 1,000 racers over 2 days.... that sponsors could be "Unhappy" thats a sanctions dream to have attendance like that.
I mean people who normally refuse to race IDRC run Summer Slam because it's Summer Slam... So you get more big time racers then normal...
I understand trying to cut down events... but why keep Atco of E-Town?????

If anyone needs time to tune before the event let me know..I'll help however i can
We hope this is one of the biggest events ever

Very true. It's good to see the ex-pro class racers are finally going to have a competitive class in Denver.
Brent, I'll look for you and JJ in the hot rod class, but I was looking forward to trying to compete with Bill this time in the Pro-Am FWD (which obviously isn't going to happen). Kyle should be happy that he will get a stab at the All-motor class... who knows, maybe we'll even see Mike Long show up in the CRX.
Good luck this year. I hope everyone has enough prep time with the earlier-than-normal event date, and lets hope the weather cooperates. Hopefully Bandimere won't schedule domestics on the first day of qualifing like they did the last time we had a 2 day event.
While I'm sad to see the IDRC be gone this year, I can appriciate that Bandimere Speedway has a busy schedule. I can appriciate the IDRC's drive to get lower-budget racers racing competitivly with a sportsman tree. It makes the events much more competitve, and had a blast doing the SR-1 team challenge- I came within sudden death of winning that class, and had the best time ever drag racing with the IDRC.

I am suprised that the sponsors were happy about Md event. That seemed very small to me all around. Very few spectators and not many racers.

We will be back in 2005. 2004 will be bigger and better than this year and 2005 will only be stronger. We have new management and staff that is dedicated and determined to better the industry as a whole where the racers have a fair, low budget, place to go..

haha, thanks JJ... I have a ways to go before I can be competitive with the class. June couldn't come slower :-P. I want to see what Sam does on that T34 he ordered in his Integra. I guess Bill had that Precision turbo that they guaranteed 40whp out of and he lost 20-40whp.
