Default The future of IDRC?

Alright guys, the only import drag race sanctioning body here in CO is the IDRC, we've had the #1 attendance for spectators and racers in all the IDRC's events, yet I hear a lot of rumors that their existance in CO and possibly across the country is limited to this last season.

I hear that the new DRAG sport magazine is making more money for the IDRC is that they ever dreamed of. With so much competition in the import sanctioning body market, they'd rather retreat to the magazine.

That leaves one of the biggest import drag racing markets dry. Will a more organized sanctioning body step up if the IDRC leaves us? A little help from this big guys on this one. Denver is such a big market which just needs to be pounced on.

Even if the IDRC stays, I think some of the other sanctioning bodies do a better job than they do. What do you guys think?

You mean to tell me there were more people at Colorado than at Summer Slam???..I dunno about that...but it is easy to say that the spectator side of IDRC is on the shallow side.

I have never been to a CO race but I hear the turnout is HUGE as well. I'd like to see NOPI make a race there since it would be closer then all the east coast races they do.

Yeah, they're pretty big, which is kind of a shame and ironic at the same time. A lot of racers and spocerd teams kinda fear our events out here because of the altitude-- you're losing about 6% of your et to altidue and thin air... meaning that you take your et and multiply it by 1.06 and you'll get your et up here at 5830ft.

But our attendance for our last even was in the neighborhood of ~8,000 spectators and ~750 racers. I have no idea what any other events do (including Summer slam), I'm just going off what IDRC advertises.

I hope this isn't true since it would mean there would be no sanctioned import race here in Colorado. I really don't know what alot of teams are afraid of(aside from a stupid incident awhile back involving some retarded gang bangers and a .22), if anything it should be more of a challenge. Kinda like what Palmdale is to most of the Cali folks. People have already laid down some quick ET's at Bandimere(kickass track btw) and I know better times can be had if people kept trying. And for the NA guys, FYI, Aaron Schley laid down a 12.5 here about 3 or 4 years ago. He didn't exactly back it up since his next run was a 13.0 followed by a 13.2 or something but I give him as well as the rest of the KG crew mad props for breaking the mold by venturing up here 2 years in a row to set a few records. If anything, it just shows that you can lay down some quick ET's up here you tried.

i hope they arent going under... they make two stops here a year... its been real fun. still never got my contingency payout from 2002 though.

i think this may be happening because they took our OCT event down to a SUNDAY ONLY race.

Yeah, word. 12.50's out of N/A is a damn good time up here.

No payout? They usuially cut you a check that day... hmmm. We had a 2 day even last year (we have 2/yr as well in Denver) the september races are the big ones, and this year's was canceled because of a rain storm. No rescedule, and all those who paid only got a 50% refund, which made a lot of people upset.

But last year's Sept. event I was running quick class, and the Saturday was qualifying for heads up classes, and they had some domestic thingie scheduled that day too, so I had to be there extra time while their classes went. I guess that has to do with the track's events more than the IDRC, but... I would like the NHRA body here (for imports)... I mean, Bandimere is an NHRA spocerd track, so why wouldn't NHRA come???

The IDRC will be around for many more years to come. Our focus for next year is more towards grassroots import drag racing, like how we started in 1998. We will be continuing with the PRO-AM classes due to the huge response.

For 2004 we will be holding 7 events nationwide. We reduced the number of races because it is hard for a racer to travel to all 13 events we had this year. Especially since there are three other sanctioning bodies. We did this for the racers to give them time to travel, setup their cars, and even find some money to make it to the races. This also gives us plenty of time to promote and put together the best possible event that we can. You will see that the quality of our series will go up. Our goal is to have a place where the racers can race affordably and competitively. Now a days with peoples budgets in the $50,000-$100,000 range for a Quick Car, the import drag racing scene is becoming to expensive. Our goal is to cater to the low budget racers who need a place to race.

And yes DRAG Sport is doing real well. For 2004 both the IDRC and DRAG Sport will surpass all our goals!

Thanks.

For sure we will visit: Palmdale (CA), Maplegrove (PA), Atco (NJ), MIR (MD), Bandimere (CO), Firebird (AZ).

And we are looking at possibly Fontana...

Thanks for the info. Good to get it from the source.

Quick question though, I hear the max bore for a B18C for quick class competition will be 83mm next year?

How about SLC. We have a Great Track and I am willing to bet it would be the biggest spectator turnout in the country

we have not made any decisions on rule changes at this point. i would really doubt that we would limit it to only 83mm.. we will keep you posted for when we release the 2004 rules. thanks.

I too, would like to see NOPI or NHRA come out to colorado. Except for the Kurt and Leevon and Ari coming out multiple times, everyone else like Ed B and Lisa K came once and never again. Its boring watching the same 8-12 cars in the quick class every year. If you want it to grow bigger, get the fast guys from the other sanctioning bodies out here and they are all in NOPI and NHRA, since thats where the sponsors and the $$$ are.

Yeah no doubt, we do need more big name racers to attend. However; I don't know what the odds are of having Kenny Tran or Lisa K return after that incident a few years ago. I happened to be standing near her when it all went down and later on I heard her talking about how she wouldn't come back because of it.

That track is so high in elevation thats its not too appealing to the racers. Cars dont seem to run that well.
But wow that race had one of the hugest amatuer/spectator turn-outs I have ever been to.
We were waiting at the gates an hour before the track opened and it seemed the 500 car cap was already waiting in line.

I too am a little dissapointed in the attendance at the IDRC events this year. CO had plenty of people, but I have been to two others (out of state) and they sucked. I was especially dissapointed with San Antonio. I lost in Semis to a MUSTANG! they let him race because the racer turnout was so poor. I complained but no one seemed to give a **** that the car should not have even been there. Tommorow at Firebird will really have a huge impact on my next years schedule of races.

Yea the SA race was a big dissapointment, typically the SA track is known as a fast rack and is maintened really well. We ended up driving up to dallas for the nopi race on sunday instead of going back to SA for the finals of the IDRC race

Honestly I think SA does not have Sport Compact market there. I mean what tuners are based in SA? Plus I how far is SA to Dallas and Houston.

Yeah Tobi, no doubt. Sorry to hear about the mustang, that's abosolute crap. How could you have such a crappy racer turnout? I don't get it. I think they need to bring all contigency classes to Denver. There's obviously a market for it.
