External vs. Internal
I am debating wether I should go with an intank fuel pump or an external one. What advantages do the external fuel pumps bring to the table that an intank one can't (walbro 255)? I know you have to mount the external device even with the bottom of tank but what if you have a fuel cell (I don't but I'm curious)?

i dont belive you can use an internal fuel pump with a fuel cell becuase the 'lid' is where you fill it and that would be where its mounted...
I guess you could rig some kind of "bilge pump" up, but why?

Ok let me clear this up and I am referring to 500+ hp setups....Here are my questions:
1) Advantages of an external fuel pump vs and intank walbro 255 or do they not use intanks w/ that high of hp?
2) I know w/ external fuel pumps you have to mount them level w/ the gas tank, but where do you mount them if you have a fuel cell?

even with a fuel cell you mount the pump under the car, you just put a drain tube from the cell to the pump, there are 2 types of pumps just like fans, pushers and pullers. all depends on the set up and location.
i think higher HP cars run externals because of the ratings that they need as far as flow, even the smaller aeromotive externals flow enough for over 500hp. but i think a walbro is less, i have a 255hp but dont know the rated HP for flow.

The walbro works great up to a certain horsepower level. Once you pass that level there really aren't any options except to sump the tank and go w/ a huge external pump. The two advantages I see to the internal pump is the weight(you can run less gas in the tank) and they are not nearly as loud. It's a simple/proven solution up to about 500hp & has even been pushed over 600, but after that point it's like I said earlier you're gonna need a bigger pump to support those hp levels and external is all that is available. we have made over 600 with a 255 but i honestly dont recommend it. it works but imo after 500 i would want an external system. ur just pushing the limits of the pump at that point... this is of course my personal preferance

Well, Im the guy the Direp posted the link about on my project dual walbro. Right now Im at around 500whp and the single walbro is dropping fuel pressure at higher rpm's around 480whp at low boost. Definetly not gonna hold what you need at the power your looking for, in my setup anyways--stock wiring is still in tact and -6 feed/return. As of now the twin intank project is at a stand still due to lack of time preparing the car for competition. I know it will work well, but dont have the time to setup as of yet. Honestly im gonna scrap those plans til a later date, but sumping and inline is almost a failsafe option for those of us looking for that amount of flow. 600 whp has been made on a singe walbro intank, but honestly I wouldnt trust a $70 fuel pump setup for a 600whp car.
