DSS 5.9 Problems????????
Im going to call dss tomm but wanted to make a post to see if anyone else has experienced my problem. I have installed and pressed many hubs and bearings in my day, and the problem im having is ill press the hub and bearing into the spendal and install it back on my car and everything is tight and fine, but once I put her on the ground and roll her around a little it pops out and is loose! I have done this probably 3 times, its like the hub is to long or something. Its starting to be a pain in the ***!! Is there something special I need to do to the 5.9's?
thanks

The hub and bearing are not flush, I would of caught that a long time ago. Its like everything is normal, it just will not stay tight! Has anyone ever had any problems with parts from dss, cause we have not, but we are human i guess.
Take pics, check the outer joint of the axle and see if u can see where the hub is hitting it. IF u have older/new axle/hub it will do something like this. and even with the axle nut tight, it wont pull the bearing tight, due to axle not going all the way into hub.
I put grease on the back of the hub and installed back onto the alxe and it did make contack with the flat spot on the axle, that was with out the axle nut that time and with it pressed back together, from what your saying kinda sounds like my problem, but what do you mean older/new axe/hub? Im kinda confused lol, the hubs are dss 6 months old along with the alxes, the hubs came the the axles from dss.

the older hubs are spined deeper than the new ones. and the new axle isnt splined as long on the axle. So if hub/axle are mis matched. the spline will bottom out even though its not all the way in the hub. Pull the axle out. if youve tried tighting it like you said you have, you should see a ring all the way around on the axle, where its hitting the non splined part on the hub.
exactly! the marks are on the taper part though, were the back flat part and the splines are about to start, if that makes any sence. So what do I do If the hubs do not match the axles? Do you think dss would fix this for me? I mean the better for how much they cost right? lol
I have the same problem, It's a design flaw. It only happens when the axle is out. You try and push the car without the axle in and it feels like some one is holding the brakes.
To fix the problem, I just got a big nut, bolt and washer and tightened them together to keep the hub and bearing together when the axle was pulled out.
I talked to Frank @ DSS a few years ago but he didnt have a fix for it then. They might have a fix now.
Other than that, those axles are BAD ***!!!

what i thought that was normal. my car does the same u take the axel out & the bearing is loose making it hard to roll . as soon as u put it back in & tighten it up it rolls jsut fine.
seems to me the axel is used to make the bearing straighten out & alighn things up.
doesnt bother me at all u cant drive without the axels anyways . i can even see the tire doesnt sit straight without the axel in & with the nut "tightened". wobbildy wobble, lol
its racing , they never run right with missing parts

hes not talking about that, what you are saying is normal happens to every car ive pushed with the axles out, but once u tighten the axle nut the bearing tightens up and play goes away.
I sent lee some pics this morning and going to call him back after lunch, hope they take care of me, ill let everyone know what the outcome is.
