Default drivetrain panic!

Iam running 24.5s with dss 5.9s and a prodrive spool...

What opinions do u guys have on the safety aspect (running a spool). I don't think the axles would break with the small tire.

Has anyone experienced a broken axle on the big end. If it happens is there any chance of saving it ??? The car will short time in the low 1.5s and weighs 2480.

ur good at holding nuts, so when it does break up there u should have no problem holding on to it and keeping it off the wall.

what kind of question is this? all cars will react different if and when it breaks...

Just wondering what people thought about this. If its worth the risk running a spool.

And what its like having an axle problem at speed. Never had it happen to me.

Do u even have a car??? Or do u just talk...

I use to run a prodrive spool with some 5.9s and I broke the pass side axle in the water box and it did throw me right towards the wall. Since then I changed to 26s and a lsd, but would rather run the spool but will have to wait till I get the pro level upgrades.

I would run a lsd is you plan on running the 5.9s

Thanks for the info..... this has been a big decision for me. Never ran an LSD on the drag car but it seems most people recommend it for safety. But on the other hand the spool is a

Is there a noticeable difference in traction when u switch to the LSD.

We had a noticable difference in tire wear with the LSD. Switched to the spool once we got dss pro series axles.

Reid broke the intermediate shaft when we had the LSD and it kicked him pretty hard left until he lifted. I can only imagine the result if the spool was in the tranny and it broke at a higher speed.

The risk is definently there, but have yet to see an accident from it.

I think it is personal preference. I ****ing HATE pushing my car around with the spool. It makes the car feel like you are pushing a Mack truck. Driving down the track it is great, and I know a lot of guys that prefer a spool on the track. Once you turn off...it sucks! I broke some axles under power with the spool and it shoots you towards the wall and puckers your hole, but I had plenty of time to react and catch it. I'd be afraid on a big turbo car not to run the biggest axles you can get and a good LSD.

If you race enough, you are going to probably break something so all you can do is overbuild it. If you have axles that are too small for your setup, just draw a line down the center of the axle and keep an eye on how far they twist. Call Driveshaft Shop and ask them what is acceptable twist before they break. At least then you have a reference point.

There you go! Also Mark Williams has his stuff sitting on the shelf ready to go and I'm sure he would like to move some. Driveshaft shop has the big stuff too, and new diffs and spools for the big stuff.
