Drag racing w/lightweight battery and alternator removed?
I was curious since I had seen many people running without the alternator at the NOPI race in St. Louis if a lightweight battery was enough to juice the car down the track and back and how many times on a single charge it could do this. Anybody here know? I forgot to ask at the races.

I'll let you know. I have a bet going that I can't get a B16 with i/h/e to run 100 mph quarters. I aint gonna make it on weight alone so I am rigging up a switch to cut the alternator out at full throttle. I'm going to dyno the car and see a) hp gained and b) how long it takes for the voltage to drop too low.

Supposedly this lightweight Odyssey battery I'm buying has a 27min charge capacity. It should be long enough for the strip and back.

I know there are people out there doing this. I'm not sure if they are using the larger size battery or the smaller size one. I would feel you would want one with a large enough cca's to power all of those items. There have been people that run RC car batteries to the ecu and engine before as well.

i planning to run without the alternator too... i have found an 11lb battery that can be run without the alternator...but u can't run any accessories.... u need an ignition that can take up to 18 volts... go to performancedistributors.com they also sell lightweight 13lb batteries....

Re: try this!!! (dohcsideSi)
what most of us are doing now is converting to the 16volt setup. Turbo Start makea 16volt batter for 164.50 from summit plus there charger is required. This setup require no alternator and your voltage doesnt drop pass 14.6 on a hard run with all accesories on such as water pump fuel pump igntion
