Cuff or no cuff
For my new set up this year unfortunately I'm limited on building my transmission do to the life of being a adult.. but I'm looking for input from people that have ran cuffs. Do you think it helps at all with decreasing the chances of busting gears? I've heard mixed reviews (FYI this is for a 600hp to 700hp application) Thanks for any reply

Re: Cuff or no cuff
I feel it does. I helps prevent to gears from separating. The only thing holding the top of the gears together is stock cast casing. So using a cuff will help hold it all together.
When I had stock gears and a cuff, the only thing that went eventually was the ring gear. The 1-4 were still good.

Re: Cuff or no cuff
We run a cnc werx cuff in the integra, about 750-775whp and we’ve broken everything, countershaft and FD, second gear and 4th gear (on the dyno)
I think it it would be a lot worse without it as there is a substantial amount of flex possible and we had some wheel hop and clutch adjustment issues.
Anything over 700whp is a crapshoot for the OEM stuff holding up and for $100 why take a chance.

Re: Cuff or no cuff
Some people have different opinions. I feel the 2 shafts seperating is not a huge main issue as some people thought years ago. Food for thought someone who was making the cuff and had a race car used it. They no longer use it in there race car. Not because they went to gear set... still using oem gears. I just dont think it is worth the time and money to rip apart to put one in. May have 1 or 2 people out of 10 that it either pro longs issue or the dreadful end which would be coming soon...the H series guys are putting some serious effort on tracing down oem gearset issues...or modify to take a bit more abuse.... with all the damaged transmissions around 450 ft lb mark is when they go... start to learn haha

With stock gears the shafts aren't really trying to push apart (perpendicular), they will try to move up/down (parallel). A cuff doesn't stop them from the parallel movement unless your top countershaft bearing has lots of play.
With straight cut gears, yes it will definitely help.
