I went to the track today and got 3 run in and on my fourth run, when i shifted from 1st to 2nd.

The tranny went boom, i pulled over on the side of the track and was able to get it into 2nd gear and drove it down and out of the track.

Once in the parking lot, i jacked the car up and notice that i have a quarter size hole in my tranny right where the shift rod is.

What cause is? did the shift rod bent and put the hole in my tranny

Right now, i cant get the shifter into 1st 3rd and 5th. I can get into 2nd, 4th, and reverse if i try to force it in.

Did my diff grenade?

Of course i drove the car to the track so i was stranded for quite sometimes before i finally got a towed home.

Just looking for idea on what went wrong

 

if your diff blew up your car wouldnt move. at least my experience when i blew up 2 diffs

 

Right now i can get it into 2nd 4th and reserve but it doesnt going anywhere and nasty grinding noise in the tranny.

 

Did you hear any noises pre-breaking? Sounds like something broke and was sent through the case. I had this happen but it went through the clutch side of the case and bounced around on the pressure plate then back through the case into the trans. Shifted into all gears still.

 

After my 3rd run, i did notice a clunk sound maybe 2 or 3 time but couldnt figure out what it was.

Seem like it was damaged then i finished it off on my 4th run, what mostly is the problem?

My differential grenade? but should i be able to get into all gear still? just wont go anywhere?

 

If the diff failed, its highly likely that you would have a hole in your case.

 

same thing happen to a buddy of mine. they open diff blew apart.


One wheel spinning too much and overheating the diff will do it.

 

Look like the diff went boom?

 

if you broke lets say another gear some times the pieces get caught between the diff and the case and break the case.. my buddy Mitchell's car broke 4th and did that..
