Default ....Alternator with SPEEDPRO....

Ok, im having problems with my charging system on my car, my alternator isnt charging. im running a Speedpro and i think i wired it right, but its still not charging. i've even went to the trouble of changing my alternator for a new one, but thats still not the problem. Here's how i have it hooked up...

Black/Yellow wire - Ignition
Blue/White wire - Battery light on the gauge cluster
Thick White wire - Fuse box under the hood

Im running an OBDII alternator and im not running my stock ecu anymore. If can someone help me out and if you see what im doing wrong, please help me out. Thanx.

TurboDandee is there 2 wires that you have going from the plug in the alternator to where the thick white wire is? I was having the same problem but then Mike had me switch those two wires to 12v+ when the key is turned.

The only 2 wires im using from the plug is the black/yellow and white/blue. black/yellow is hooked up to ignition, white/blue is hooked up to the battery light. maybe i need to give that blue/white ignition also?

My question for is, does your battery light turn on when you just apply the ignition, power before you start the car?the wht/blu wire goes to the electric load detector in the fuse box.It has to be run to the dash, the altenator fuse has to still be in the dash. You can take a light bulb, and put it in series with the wht/blu wire, then ground it. The blk/yllw should get 12 volt power, this should make the altenator charge, it is temporary fix, but this should make it charge. If I did not have 30 inches of snow , I could get to the shop, and tell you for sure, this was all of the top of my head. Jason

You know what, my battery light is not turning on when i put it on the "on" position. did i hook up the white/blue wire wrong? all the fuse is still on the factory location cause i never messed with them and i did check if its blown, still good.

For temporary use.. hook up a light to the white/blue wire and ground it?

Yes, but put a load between it and ground, like a light bulb, it is normal tied into the dash battery, light, and the electric load detector., do not tie it to positive power source, it will harm the altenator.
Good luck. Jason

Thanx guys, I got it to work!

I tried every little advice that i got, but still no luck. I finally decided to take apart my harness and do it all over. Turned out that the power wire to the alternator was not hooked up (solder came apart). So, patched that up and slapped it back on the motor. Turned on the key, battery light came on, fired it up and battery light turned off. Checked the voltage on the alternator and its a solid 14v+. Thanx again for those who gave me some helpfull tips. Peace out!

-Dandee (im using my friend's sn)

the white blue/white wire (facing back of alt plug its top right) needs +12v to begin charging ...
hook it up +12v swi ign source.

Glad you got it working Dan. I told you that yellow/black wire probably wasn't getting a 12v power source when kicked on. Are you back in houston yet?

Ya man, got back last monday. I have about 45 miles on the car and gotta finish breaking it in before i dyno. so far so good, except my idle is real high, bounces up and down between 2500-3000 rpm and running lean on bottom end. anyone know where i can adjust this?

How's your a/f at idle? What RPM do you have cloosed loop enabled? What's your rpm vs. coolant temp graph look like? Check for any vacuum leaks. If it's running lean, do a couple runs and see where on the base VE chart it's leaning out and add some fuel there.

A/F - reads around 14-16
Closed loop - enabled on 500 high and 400 low RPM
RPM vs. Coolant temp. - 1300 rpm to 84 deg. then dips down to 1000 rpm to 140 deg.

I will try adjusting the base VE charts and add some fuel on the bottom end. right now it sits around 38-44 below boost and before 3000 rpm.
