Default AEM EPM

Was wondering if anyone has tried this out or is currently using it and how do they like it, and pro's con's etc.. and what coils are you using? Is it worth it compared to a upgraded distributor?

Thanks

I have used the EPMs in several cars. They work flawlessly. AEM has good documentation on their forums for the software configuration. I have used the EPMs in conjunction with the aem twinsparks/coils, M&W pro 12/14 boxes/CBR coils. Coil on plug is worth it. With the M&W pro 14 and CBR coils i was able to run a 0.032" plug gap at 30psi with no spark blow out, and much less plug fouling compared to a distributed spark set-up. More expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Just a note, be careful running a big plug gap like that at high power with the cbr coils. The insulation internally is very thin and the CDI box can break it down with high plug gaps and high cylinder pressure as the resistance to fire goes way up. We've found that at .024" or so it's a pretty nice happy medium. No misfires and the plugs last a long time, as well as not risking coil damage as much. The more cylinder pressure there is the more likely the coils are to fail at big gaps.

It'll probably never be an issue with the pro 14 and gas. With the Pro Drag 4 (250mj) and alcohol it's something you have to watch for.

Are the AEM coils any different? I am a die hard fan of Honda engineering but which coil pack would be better to go with or are they pretty much the same?

The EPM mated with the AEM pencil coils, and Twin fire ignition are amazing. I run it personally, and we have even tuned 930+whp turbo setups with it as well. The accuracy and reliability are simply fantastic.

I know 3 people running the EPM with OEM Stock K Series coils. Seems to be a good inexpensive combo.

One last question. What am I saying, there is never a last question...lol

Are there any differences between the years and model of cbr coils? 2001 600 f4i vs 2005 1000 rr?

I'm not sure I'd call them amazing. I've personally tuned turbo B-series Hondas from 800 to 900+ on the stock honda distributor, coil, ignitor, and plug wires. Not saying it's perfect, but it worked.. AEM's reliability record is far from fantastic..
