we ran an engine for over 2 years with 85mm and over 30 psi (750 or so wheel horsepower) -- no problems at all

i would have no reservations running a properly machined 85mm boosted engine -- i do like to run the copper o-rings in our builds -- and they have alway held up great

thank you very much thats exactly what i wanted to hear.

everyone else please chime in, i need to hear some opinions on if i should buy a new sleeved block and put my 84.5 mm pistons in it, or just bore to 85mm.

obviously i would rather bore to 85 cause of cash flow reasons but i want a SAFE motor.

as long as you have a decent tune up 85mm will be fine with 40+ lbs of boost.

Safer? im not sure. But I like the Idea if having a bit smaller bore right off the bat. Incase you hurt something you can always bore it back out and have a clean round cylinder and not have to buy a new block... thats my .02

yea i understand that, but thanks to shitty machine work, thats the position im in right now, it needs to be bored, so i think im just gunna go to 85 and hope for the best.

believe me i wish it could be 83mm (incase something was to happen) but i already bought the motor, so simply buying the new pistons seems to make the most sense.

I would just go 84.5 and in the event of another mishap you can still punch it out to 85. The .5 will not make much of a performance gain so if you can get away with 84.5 I would most deff do that.

I had a friend that had various issues with his 85mm LSV, origionaly pushed coolant turned out to be the head. Then with the new head a 42R setup went on and he started pushing coolant again, never found the issue he totalled the car.

All is not lost after 85mm, for $550 GE will resleeve the block. Kind of pricey but it beats scrapping the block to your NA friend.

the block is already bored to 84.5 and the piston to wall clearance is too big, the only reason i ask is because boring to 85 is really my only other option.
