Re: **ATT: SOCAL Irwindale speedway CLOSING**
Dayum...Brotherhood Raceway...Pomona...Carlsbad Raceway....LACR...now Irwindale. They are all going down one by one.
L.A.. has Autoclub raceway and Bakersfield
S.D. has Barona and Qualcom both 1/8th tho.
At the very least Firebird or Las Vegas is within reason to go to but still require some travel time to get to.

Re: **ATT: SOCAL Irwindale speedway CLOSING**
Haven't heard anything Bout a strip but it's plan was to be a course for Porsche owners to take their cars out. Nothing I've read has said anything different for other cakes/models to run

Maybe these people will reconsider once people start killing themselves or others on the streets. If my memory is correct, 2 or 3 kids died street racing in 2000 and that's how they pushed for that 1/8th mile at Irwindale to open, and still at that, it took them over a year to open the gates.
I guess if its not their kids, its not important.

I don't see why the main st to irwindale can't be turned into a track. Just saying...
Nice and straight, and even uphill on a shutdown.

wouldve been great to see someone like bruton smith ****** up that facility honda was selling last year and make it into a motorsports mecca. terrible to see the birthplace of drag racing running out of places to drag race.

Re: **ATT: SOCAL Irwindale speedway CLOSING**
It was funding that got it shot down. Toyota had a 10yr sponsorship deal with an exit clause in 5 years and they chose to get out. On top of that a few circle track series pulled out, so there you go, less events and no major sponsor cuts the income of the facility.
In the end, its money they need. The 1/8 Mile dragstrip isnt what brings in the money in this place. Its the oval and the spectators that come with it.

So now we have to go test, those w/ full drag cars, in Vegas or Bakersfield? Is possible Fontana will allow full race cars during test and tune?

Re: **ATT: SOCAL Irwindale speedway CLOSING**
Got this from Facebook from the VW Bug In guys
For Immediate Release Monday February 20, 2012
Hot VWs Drag Day participants, sponsors and fans,
As many of you have heard through the newspapers and on the internet, Irwindale Speedway reportedly closed its gates a week ago, Saturday, February 11th. Unfortunately there was no warning and we found out from the rumors circulating at the NHRA Winternationals. Since that time we have learned that the people running the track filed for Chapter 7 and moved out. Our sources say that the owners of the property still want it to remain a raceway and negotiations are underway with new management or ownership. They seem very confident that something will happen, unfortunately it probably won’t happen in time to meet deadlines we have with city permits, insurance and promotional mailings. At this time Periscope Enterprises really has no choice but to postpone the scheduled March 18th Drag Day and put all efforts into the FLAT-4 Bug-In 37 to be held April 29th in Fontana at the Auto Club Speedway. We are also currently working on a modified schedule for the post Bug-In 2012 racing season.
Stay tuned!

Re: **ATT: SOCAL Irwindale speedway CLOSING**
that's too bad, they'd use your wheels too!!
as for the track closing, typical hype - there are several ways to purchase a track, this is just one of them. i dont see the track being built, used for commercials, testing, etc. for millions of dollars - then 5 yrs later bounce and write it off as a dud', someone has their hand in the cookie jar

This really sucks to hear and without warning it happened. There's no way ill make it to fontana in my hatch without getting pulled over or cats getting sucked into my turbine.
