This kind of **** happens because people don't vote. So you get a bunch of old conservative jackasses in the city council, mayors and a governor who don't give 2 ***** about the urban car enthusiast in california. these people make decisions based on what they think is best for the city and these decisions are made people's behalf cause the people didn't stand up and speak. As long as the youth and racing enthusiast fail to get someone that they can relate in to the position to make these important decisions the tracks will keep disappearing. Get out and vote the cities do have board meetings and city council meetings open to the public and people need to voice what the want so they can be heard. Since jan of 1983 to the present there have been 3 republican governors out of the 5 governors and this is Edmund Gerald jerry brown Jr has been nominated twice. People need to open their eyes cause things will continue to be the same unless people start voicing their concerns instead sitting on their hands. I still don't know how Arnold Swartzenfaker ever became governor of CA?.

I would blame the people for not coming out to the tracks before blaming some political party. Think about it, if the tracks were making money they would stay open.

Thurs night drags were always packed every week. If they would have had weekend drags it would have pulled in more $ too

Let's face it. With the way our Government BORROWS money from the Fed it's no wonder why the economy is failing. The more money is created/borrowed, the less it's worth. Just withing the past 2 presidents the price of gold has grown from the $300's to $1600+. If that is not inflation then I don't know what is.
Even though some nights might be packed they still might not be making much money due to the above unless they raised prices significantly. My local track has seen better times and to be honest has gone downhill fast. They switched track managers a few years ago and hasn't been the same ever since.
There are many factors to the closing of a business. And unless the gov' of California has made drag stripes illegal then I would look elsewhere for reasons as to why tracks are closing. It's actually really sad to see all these tracks failing and closing down. Especially in Ca. That is where import racing took off from!

Irwindale is more than just the Dragstrip . For that much Real state you need your whole schedule full every week with a good turn out . And yes the 1/8 mile strip was always full and Bizzzzzy . Lights Gas insurance personal on the ground , has to be paid . Week In week out , the Strip could only support only so much over the over head . With the way the USA's dollars are rock right now . People are pulling back picking and choosing when and were they are going to run . Barona and Bakers are good tracks that have two things going for them . Wholly owned , one by the city . and one buy the Tribe/Band in San Diego . With this i can see a big in crease of street racing / Bad press / Little Johnny getting killed racing on the road . You notice i did not say Street Dragracing . There is only one place for Dragracing , and that on Dragstrip . Support what you have left Barona / Bakersfield / The Strip in Las Vegas also SAC

(Brown sought the Democratic nominations for President of the United States in 1976, 1980, and 1992, and was the Democratic candidate for the United States Senate in California in 1982 but was unsuccessful in these attempts.)

I think Brown is a Dumocratic ! cal.is a blue state, blue = democratic
It's not Political i think it's Financial
AZ. is a red state they have 3 drage strips and only 10% of the population of cal. ?

This is the statement in Wikipedia :
The 1/8-mile drag racing strip opened on September 29, 2001. In 2003, in cooperation with local law enforcement, Irwindale Speedway opened its own dragstrip and hosts legal drag races for street-legal cars, trucks, and motorcycles. The dragstrip is proud to extinguish the "nowhere else to go" excuse used by illegal street racers, and local police often hand out flyers to offenders for free entry into drag races at the dragstrip to promote safe racing. The last street legal race session was Thursday, February 9, 2012.[3]

You would think that all the local high performance shop owners with maybe a little more juice and voice would team up and gather their customers for a nice rally at city hall. This will probably hurt them more than anyone else don't you think?
Who's going to want to build a race car where nowhere to race?
Meh.... Someone trade me a 4X4 for my hatch, or a quad? hahahaha

Dont bring politics into this. Thats not the case in this situation. Toyota pulled out of a 10 year deal with a clause to cancel out after 5yrs. They did just that and that hurt the financial standing of the facility. There were several factors that just hurt the track and it had to fold.
The drag strip isnt the big money maker on the property so rallying at City Hall wont do anything. Local Shops can't do anything either with their voice. Only thing that will save it is money. Plain and simple.
