someone please help
i know this isnt a nissan site, but i dont knwo where else to ask this. i have a 1985 nissan 200sx and its running very sluggish for 78000 original miles, i has a few oil leaks but other than that the car looks like its in great shape. im not looking for a 100% fix answer, i just need some suggestions from someone with experiance. like i said, 1985 imported 4 banger and its running very sluggish, especially for a rear wheel drive car

Other than that, try the spark plugs, air filter, check timing, fuel filter, run some Seafoam cleaner thru the fuel tank.

there is a unit on the front of the engine driven by one of the camshafts (can't remember what it is called) the dog drive to this wears very badly and retards the timing. it is adjustable but probably too far worn to get back to the correct timing . in the past i have "bodged" these by opening up the slots further to allow more movement.
this unit should be removed and lubed to prevent more wear before adjusting. for anyone who knows these cars it will be a very simple modification. i used to work on a rolling road and have done this many a time. been many years since i have done this now though but i think i did this to save replacing the unit and fitting a new camshaft .
hope that helps
