idling high??
i have a 86 honda accord, im having trouble with, and was wondering if any one here could help me out,my problem is,when i start it it runs fine, after running for a while its starts to idle real high by itself (round 4500 rpm) and cant get it to go down, unless i shut off car for a bit, or every now and then it will drop to a lower rpm, still high (3500 or so).? its a 4 cylinder carbed engine. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! does any one no if this year has a idle control sensor??

86 accord - Carb or inject - DX, LX or LXI ?
If you have Carb engine. ry to drive without air filter housing lid for a test. Clogged filte would creat a strong vacuum to hold the throttle open.
Also you will see is the choke open or stay close without lid on. Maybe a stuck choke causes the COLD IDLE.
If you have the Fuel Inject type. Check the Thermoo wax valve. Pinch the hose and see will it change idle spped when it's running high RPM. If it drop RPM. You needs a new valve.
Good luck.
