Clutch problem?
Not sure exactly what my problem is with my 1986 crx, but lately I have been adjusting the clutch cable until I can't adjust it any further.. and lately I noticed shifting my gears are becoming harder and rougher especially when i have my car in complete stop I would try to put it in reverse but I would have to grind the gears before i go into reverse... and when I try to in first gear from neutral I would have to do it forcefully and extremely hard to shift then my transmission would feel like it's getting a smack in the *** from my engine.... What are the possibilities that I might have to do? I need some suggestions since I've never worked on anything similar to clutch or transmission parts but engine parts...

Agree with clutch set needing replacement. I'm going to say TOB/pressure plate worn out not allowing full release, hence difficulty shifting and not being able to adjust it out. I'd get the flywheel resurfaced too, that really completes the job.

Re: Clutch problem?
Well the car I just got it like about 3 years now, and the person before me was rebuilding an engine and I'm sure he didn't replace the clutch as said by the owner. I just don't know when exactly it had a new clutch. And when I was reading my manual for replacing the clutch, I'm not sure if I am suppose to take the engine and tranny out to work on it or if I am suppose to leave the engine in my car and just pull off the tranny to replace the clutch devices??? Also thanks for the response guys!

Re: Clutch problem?
Based on your responses, I'm guessing you're a fairly new driver. If that's the case, three years on a clutch is an eternity.
It's easier to pull the engine and transmission as a unit and separate them to replace the clutch instead of lying on your back trying to do it in the car.
Good luck!

Re: Clutch problem?
Indeed, pretty new, as for my first new car as well, been going through a lot of experience with my car, but I'm getting a pretty good grip on understanding a lot about how cars really works and stuff. I might have to just leave the engine in the car, I'm afraid I will need to buy new gaskets and stuff if I do so or replace engine mounts.. I'm just really tight on my money unfortunately.. :/

Re: Clutch problem?
It is debateable whether or not the relative easiness of replacing the clutch components with the engine out of the car would offset the extra work needed to pull the drivetrain. When I did mine I just pulled the trans.

Re: Clutch problem?
There are no gaskets to replace during a clutch replacement. And if you think you need to replace engine mounts, now would be the time to do it.
Removing the engine and transmission as a whole really does not involve that much more work, and it makes a clutch job much easier to do when it's all right in front of you instead of hanging in your engine bay. I've done them both ways, so I speak from experience. Don't mind what 1grex says -- he's an Alabama fan. (WAR EAGLE!)
Just my .02...good luck.

Re: Clutch problem?
Good news! The pedal Bracket was cracked so I had to get it welded and put it back on then now I have a LOT of room to to adjust the clutch cable before the clutch wears out! I'm so happy it wasn't the clutch problem

Re: Clutch problem?
sadly, with his symptoms i wasn't thinking clutch at all. i was thinking his cable was failing, but it didn't make sense. usually they just slowly stretch and then snap. the clutch pedal cracking tends to be fairly common with these cars. i've seen it happen to many.
