Default XM sat. question

i got 2 questions here my car audio/video friends.. haha.. anyways

i have the alpine IVA-C801 HU.. and i was thinking of gettin XM on it..

questions:

1) i dont really see alpine XM recievers around in the big places, crutchfield, circuit city, best buy, stuff like that.. i did find one at some small local shop, but i love warranty's, especially with car audio/video stuff.. so would other brands like kenwood and others work with my alpine.. or is it strictly alpine on alpine?

2) would XM be a good investment, yes yes yes i know its not sirus, and i'd get sirus if i didnt have a brand new alpine deck in my car.. are payments still like 9 bucks? im into rap.. so what kind of rap stations do they offer? like how many? and what kinda songs do they play? Ex. commercial rap or underground hip hop ****..?

Here are your answers.....

1. Alpine made the decision in summer 2003 to stop making the TUAT020XM
tuners...mainly because it was overkill. With TERK releasing an xm product
they decided to go that route. All you need is an adaptor and the Terk
commander and your good to go. ( psst ...'spoiler alert' don't be surprised
to see a alpine deck that can work with sirrius in the near future ssshhh)

2. As an owner of both services...I find them 'equal',,the formats are
basically the same...its a toss up.

Get the tuner and enjoy music as it was meant to be...clear with few
interuptions..its all about the music enjoy it.

The IVAC801 is NOT XM ready, but you can still send XM or sirius into it using a KCa121B cord though the Ai/CD changer input that should allow it to be an aux in. Or you can use a video input'd audio left and right RCA only. you can use a terk XM commander that has the antenna/ box and display that you'll use to control the stations. Or you can use a sirius from any manufacturer with their controller because you aren't running it direct. the way you would be doing it would be similar to hooking it up to a factory car stereo, but you won't be hearing it though the fm.

Alpine stopped making the xm boxes. you were are supposed to be able to use an xm ready alpine deck with a universal terk xm box using a cable from blitzsafe, but the cable isn't out yet. eventually, someone will come out with a sirius cable to go to an xm ready deck.

XM has more subscribers. They come OEM in more vehicles from the cars I've come across. It's 9.95 a month. People complain about they play the same stuff over and over again.

sirius has fewer subscribers, but it's growing. but they might get howard stern and are supposed to broadcast every NFL game this upcoming season. has a better overall programming format, better "dj"s and music and news.

alpine did not make the decision
xm took the technology from them to make more money
thats why you see no more xm tuner boxes made for any radios

Personally I think alpine wasn't making enough money back from them. I think the alpine setup sounded the best out of all I've heard, but the price tag was also alot higher. With alpine putting the XM reciever circuitry into the radios themselves now there's no need for an external receiver box. So why still make it when dealerships put Alpine units with built-in XM receivers into alot of cars now, and since the 2nd gen XM receiver ships have come out Alpine can also do the same with their aftermarket radios.

so i can hook up a sirus tuner or xm tuner to my alpine, since it will control the stations.. but doesnt have it built in.. right? cuz on the seperate module that came with it, it has all the places to hook up a sat. radio..

if it has the XM logo on the unit anywhere, then yes, you can get the alpine tuner box and plug it in via the changer port. The Sirius unit has not come out for Alpine yet (which all company's should be making both recievers soon). Infact, Sirius and XM has had an agreement for a while now which should be appearing around 2006, and the cool thing with this agreement is the satalite radio receivers made will actually be able to do both XM and sirius, all you have to do is register your radio with the service you want (or both).

Pioneer is doing the same thing. XM cut all the funding to the individual companies to make the tuners and is giving it just to terk (they didn't take the technology, just the funding). the terk unit isn't out yet (or at least the adapters for pioneer)
