Default getting new system

Hi everyone! I dont know too much about audio, so I figured this would be the best place to go for some good answers. I'm thinking about getting a kicker S12L7 sub, but as I said before, I really dont know very much about audio. What amp should I purchase, and also what deck would be good to buy along with this? Thanks everyone in advance!

I know that I have answered a similar question with my OPINION to this a few days ago and others have added their OPINION to those threads. Do a search and see what you will find. When you ask questions that are broad like this, you will get soooo many different answers. Everyone has a brand or two that they cater to. I personally like Eclpise a ton (expensive a **** though) and don't care for the lower end Pioneer stuff and also like Sony stuff. You will see what I mean when people begin to respond to you. But do a search and educate yourself a little.

Thanks! I'll be sure to look around and see what other people have posted about the quality of different companies.

the first question u should be asking urself is wut ur budget is and wut exactly is it that u want out of a system. everyone has different ways as to how they want to set a system up. come back with a budget and wut it is u want out of a system. also wut do u plan on upgrading, i.e. head unit, speakers, amps, etc

also dont listen to wut people like, like he said, some people cater to their own likings. a lot of people like alpine on this while i myself dont like alpine. go play with some stuff at a stereo shop and decide for urself.

What I'm really looking for out of my system is a nice clean bass sound (I listen to a lot of rap) nothing really too fancy. I'm going to upgrade my head unit with an alpine CDM-9801 cd deck for about $130, a kicker S12L7 sub for about $190, and an amp which I'm willing to spend up to $400 for if needed. I got all of these prices off of http://www.ikesound.com

I agree. this is where you should always start. When you buy a car you don't ask people what they like and then go and buy what seems to be the common response. You evaluate how much and reliability and all kinds off other ****.

sounds like u like bass. with bass coming out of a subwoofer, the most important factor about sub bass, is the box, assuming that u already have an amplifier that will work well with the sub. boxes are the most crucial part of having nice bass. bad box = shitty bass
nice box = nice bass

talk to vteg about it, he knows a lot about this stuff, maybe he can build u a box, he made me a box for my sub and a few other people on this board. i swear his boxes are the ****.

Personally if you don't have much to spend, I would recommend a 6 month build up plan. A descent sounding system, that you will be very happy with will cost around 1000 dollars. Personally I would get a headunit with the features and look you want. There is very little difference between the sound of head units if you are using amplifiers besides the amount of tuning you can do. After the headunit, then get sub and sub amp in one shot. Then go for speakers and speaker amp.

Also if you want a budget setup, stay away from high power subs. Power is getting cheaper, but when you are talking about a $400 budget, you will not be able to get appropiate power for the sub. If you send a pm to atf kuk, he may be able to get you a descent deal on a 12l7 also.

BTW, as said in the previous post. Don't skimp on the box. A $100 sub will sound many times better and be louder than a $200 sub in a crappy box.
