Default Wire up your siren to a button?

Anyone done this before? My goal is to have a little button inside the car, that makes the siren chirp. Just to get someones attention for instance using something less than the horn.

I've seen it before, but am curious how to do it myself!

if your siren is positive trigger, just hook up a button with one of the wire connected to positive, and the other wire connected to the positive wire on the siren. You can also use a relay but thats a bit more involved. If i lost you, sorry. haha

hook one side of the momentary switch(2pole) to a power line, other side to the pos lead of the siren. push the button and enjoy

If your hooking up near the center console, tap the power near your Cig Lighter to one end of the switch, and run the other wire to where the siren wires enter your car to the alarm (check kickpanel if that's where your alarm is)..

I would prob Wire a Diode to the wire as well, so that you don't Input 12v to your Alarm's 12v siren output and possibly blow it.

[EDIT] turned the diagram from text to a jpeg....sorry..

In that diagram, the current would only be allowed to flow up from the alarm to the siren, and not down to the alarm output from the switch. The diode you need would be a 4001 series 1 Amp Diode (1N4001/L) and you can get it from any electronics store for about 25 cents.

I'm not sure about the full necessity of the diode, because the alarm might have built in diodes to prevent your circuit from blowing when +12v is placed at an output, but IMHO the diode should be the safe way to go. We'll see when some of the more expirenced installers on this forum do their posts in reply to this.

Take Care,
Shane.

That way rage has it...it should work.
One thing though...Check your local moto vehicle
code...by adding this device you could get the
attention of local law enforcement.
