Why does noone come to this board??? Car audio is one of the most important part of a car, IMO. We should have more people frequenting this board. Just thought I'd tell y'all my opinion....
Peace out.
Peace out.
Subs and amps are heavy, it slows the car down, blah blah blah. I am more of a long distance driver, so my stereo is pretty important. That is why I change it so often.

Hmmm....you can take the subs out when racing -- that's what i do. As far as i'm concerned, the sound system is VERY important. Plus, you can show it off in downtown areas where you can't show off speed...
I agree, I love car audio and video. I think way too many people overlook this area. I can understand if your really into racing and don't want the weight, but you can still do small upgrades. I've got a small system in my car right now, sounds really good and is well balanced. All of it together can't weigh more the 80Lbs....I'm really guessing on this one. hehe.
Here's my ****:
Pioneer DEHP 2000 HU
Pioneer TS-A1655 6.5's in all 4 corners
Zapco AG200 Amp
Alpine Type R 12" sub
All together it cost me about $850CAN... about 550-600US. All installed myself and hardly weighs anything.
In conclusion, there's no excuse to neglect your ears.

Yeah, most systems don't weigh enough to make that much a difference. Either way, it's worth it.
Here's my setup:
JVC El Kameleon (well, as of tonight...i'm ordering it. I had a Pioneer DEH-P5200 till I blew it up.)
2 12" Rockford Fosgate Subs
1 250 watt Rockford Fosgate amp
4 Sony Xplod 3 way Speakers
Little Stock GS-R Tweeters
I might be upgrading to 1600 watts in the subwoofer area...Not much point to that, but might as well.
Peace Out.

Yeah, XPLOD stuff isn't bad. I didn't get the headunit cuz I just didn't like the design, not because of quality. I like very symmetric stuff, so I can't stand designs that don't fit that description. It was more a matter of personal taste. Other than that, sony's good. I do like my speakers. They are as good a quality as most of the pioneer stuff IMO. They don't compare to Infinity stuff, but what does other than Bose?

Agree. The Xplod HU look a bit too loud, and I was looking at other HUs, that fit the look better. On top of that, I got the "wilder" Xpold than the one that I wanted which has more black to match. Oh well.
But I figure, might as well, there must be some advantage to using everything of the same brand (at least mentally for me). Plus, the shop offered me a package deal, so I went for it. Now I'm actually glad that I got everything the same brand because if I want to add a CD changer, it will hook right up and I can use the HU to control it.

Yeah, a package deal is probably a good idea. At least you know everything will work well together. As you saw above, I am far from having the same brands for everything. I am partial to Rockford Fosgate for amps and subs, mainly cuz they are known to be some of the best and the the clarity of the sub and amp combination is amazing. As far as headunits go, i think these days it is very much so a question of style preferences, since most equipment is going to be pretty much the same quality. The only thing that makes a difference is if the HU has subwoofer controls. They are a necessity. Good point about the changer though. You definately should check out options for changers between brands, as this is something you might consider down the line.
For the average guy, most brands you'll find out there is more than good enough, offered the same features, specs, and price the same. It all comes down to style and look, like you said. If you were to open it, the parts are all probably made in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, etc. anyways.
Well, since systems are in check, I have an:
Eclipse skipper cd player, skips when I play burned CDs
MB Quart Q tweeters
Polk 6.5 mids
IDQ 12s in a sealed box, it was ported and so much more loud, but I needed a place to put my shoes and the trunk turned into a wooden chest.
PG 600 ZXTi
RF punch 200
Radio Shack speaker wires
telephone jack to control the PG amp
Stock 6x9 to the HU which are louder than the subs
I am planning to do a bandpass box with 2 10w3s which takes up very little space and should be louder than the 12s sealed. I have a Prelude, so what's an extra 80lbs?

Yeah, I got a pimp stereo in my accord. I am selling the accord so I wanna sell the stereo to. I am gonna buy a lude and I dont think my subs will fit in it unless I do a custom. So if anyone wants a phat, hard hitting amp and two subs in a sealed box, i can hook you up. Anyway, heres what I have in my car:
-JVC El Kamilion with VR (Voice Recognition)
-6.5" Pioneer premiers in the back
-5.25" Sony Explodes in the front
-Rockford Fosgate 800a2 Amp....top wattage = 986
- (2) Rockord Fosgate 12" He2's Peak Wattage = 800
- Home made Sealed Box.
It hits HARD

oh yeah, dude with the lude...how much can you fit in your trunk? Like i was said, I was gonna sell my 12's and get 10's. How well do the 10's fit in the lude. do the 12's fit at all?

My 2 12s have about 1.15 cuft per sub, and the rear wasn't angled to follow the back seat. Still, the box ended right where the trunk lid starts. I tried a ported box with 4 cuft total, it ran along the passenger's side and took up 75% of the trunk, it took almost 3 hours to stuff it in there and was so much louder than the sealed. The only problem was getting the spare tire, I couldn't.... The 2 10w3s I am going to put in take up 2cuft total in 2 seperate bandpass boxes and will follow the back seat this time, more space and access to the spare tire. Plus, the bandpass box offers about 2 more db than the ported box, so its like adding power with just using a different box.
If you already have the 12s, and you don't need a spare tire, port it and use the floor as the bottom of the box, raise the deck a couple of inches where you are going to mount the subs and you should have about 4 cuft of ported box volume. The 12s in a ported box can be very clean and loud. 10s in a ported or sealed (prefferably ported) would be the best set up for sound quality. Of course it depends alot on the subs, but the right box can make any sub hit hard....
