Default When do you use a diode?

Hey, im just a little confused on this. I just installed a backup battery and the old dei 795W pager on my car.

On the backup battery, I used a 1 amp diode and connected the (-) trigger blue wire to the hood pin wire. The problem with this is that when my alarm is armed, and i take out the power to the backup as if someone cut it, nothing happens. I thought it was supposed to send a (-) signal to the alarm to trigger it. Also, when I set off the alarm with the hood pin, then remove the backup battery (expecting it to keep going on cause of the backup), well it starts to make this mutated sound(very low) like its not getting power, or something is wrong. I dont know if its my diode or what.

With my pager, I connected the 3 triggers to my hood pin, doors, and trunk. I did NOT use a diode becuase from my understanding, these are all inputs to the pager and not an output from the pager like a sensor. Is this correct? Also, the wierd thing is that when the alarm is disarmed, and I open the door or trunk, I get paged.....???? Am I supposed to use a diode or something somewhere? Thanks everyone as always!

A diode only allows current to flow 1 way. It will allow - to flow through the striped side and + to flow through the other side. Are you sure it's hooked up right?

I know what a diode does, but im just making sure that I dont need to use it for the pager since the signal is going TO the pager and not FROM the pager to the alarm. I dont know why my alarm siren makes a weird sound when it goes off and the power is disconected. Its supposed to keep going on....

I remember having that problem and I seem to remember not using the pins to the pager, but using the siren wire out of the alarm to the pager to trigger it.

Here, ill clarify.

Its a dei backup battery 520T. I have the power wire fused to the fuse box in the engine bay, the black grounded, the gray now powering the alarm, and the blue wire connected to the hood pin wire with a diode.

I thought that the backup battery was supposed to trip the alarm when the power to the backup was cut and the alarm is not already going off. I also thought that the siren is supposed to keep going off when the backup battery is cut...which it does but its a weird sound. Maybe its not charging right? Bad battery?

On the dei pager 795W, I connected the power to the fuse box, black grounded, orange to the ground when armed, and the 3 triggers to the hood pin, trunk, and doors. Am I right to not need diodes for the pager installation, and only 1 for the backup battery installation?

Teken, can you tell me how to hookup the backup so that I can manually charge it like you always tell people to do. Or have it charge when the ignition is on? Does the backup last long enough inbetween the use of your car? For example if you have it so that it will only charge with your ignition...well can you not charge it all weekend and the backup will still have juice?

EVIL Teken: What does the maual state the blue wire is suppose to be connected to?

The 520T is notorious for being a pile of crap. It sounds like you have it hooked up correct. More then likely the battery that came with it is dead. I always swap these batteries out for a better more reliable one. When the power is disconnected it is supposed to trigger the alarm. What kind of alarm? You might want to make sure it is not sourcing its power from somewhere else.

Its a DEI Python 1000esp alarm. And the backup battery is the 520T cigarette pack size battery. It told me to connect the red to a constant power, black to gound, gray to the alarm, and blue to a (-) trigger.

What are better backup batteries and where can I get them? Thanks for all your guy's help!

I do the same as Teken suggested. You can then cut the connector off of the 520T and attatch it to the new battery.

Do not buy a lead acid brick battery, it may say it is sealed but it isnt...
This is why the 520T is a piece of crap, besides being to small. All the acid leaks out in shipping. Pop the top off their will be little black caps on each cell. I am willing to bet every cell is empty or almost empty.

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it!! Does Radio Shack sell the 7.5 amp hour batteries? Also, do you know how to increase the range of the DEI pager? I installed the old pager and it uses the radio to transmit the signal but it sucks SOOOOO BAD!!! I told me girlfriend to go in the mall but it didnt work. I also told her to drive her car about .5 miles away and nothing. Supposed to work for 1 mile???? Yeah right. It has only worked in my room and about 50-75ft to the mall door!!!!! WHAT CAN I DO>????

Whats a CB and where can I get the antenna? Does the antenna work well through buildings? Also, this may sound stupid, but what do they sell that reads exact voltages of your battery?
