Default Viper 5000 2-way Security System installed today - is anything missing?

2000 Honda Civic SI
Viper 5000 2-way Security System - Installed at Audio Express
Added: Backup battery & Piezo Siren

1. While alarm is set, I can pop open the trunk and hood and the alarm will not trigger. It will only trigger once I close it. Are the hood and trunk switches sold separately?

2. Is a power door lock (PDL) relay built in the alarm system? If so, is a PDL relay the same thing as a PDL relay module?

3. Has any of you had to purchase an extra PDL relay module with your Viper Alarm system? Do you need it for a 2000 Honda Civic SI?

well if they charged you for this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

They took advantage of you. And I would go back and ask for some chips back. That alarm has onboard relays so you do not need any other things to hook up your door locks. Thats shady All dei alarms On honda and tegs You really don't need to add any relays to lock/and unlock the doors. It a neg trigger which the alarm can provide. Now if it was a high current ground then yes you would need that part above or two relays. But your alarm brain can do the job of that unit. Hell its inside of that unit, lol. Your alarm can even work aftermarket aculators

hood sensor - i don't think honda's have one built in.. all you need is a N/C pin switch...

and for your trunk. Hondas should have a wire(green i think - to check just pop open the trunk, look for the locking mechanism, there should be a wire that comes out from there, that is the trunk "sensor" wire) that grounds when the trunk is open - most likely the guys who installed the system, didn't hook that wire up...

also, look at your pager unit after the alarm triggers - does it say zone 2 was triggered, cause if it does that just means that you set off the shock sensor.. not an actual hood trigger.

Most of the time hood and trunk is a added on option. your unit does not come with a trunk pin in the box from dei. And if it does most installers will not install it unless more labor is added. Most high-end alarms come with hood pins in the box. Now if its a remote start. The hood pin has and must be installed if the unit is to work correctly. It does not have to but it should. It is a safety feature and should be included. I allways include it with a remote start if the unit says so. I would take it back and talk to a manager. Tell them you asked around and found out your unit does not require it.

Thanks STI. Yes, the Viper 5000 does have a built in 451M and it's either the manager was too stupid and didn't know what was actually in the alarm system, or he knew and was shady enough to throw an extra charge. I asked him if he's heard of a CompuSTAR. He said he didn't, so maybe he's not all up there with alarms? Yet he's a manager?

I been in the game for awhile and heard of compustar. Never installed one till about 4 months ago. Hell now I am dealer for them, lol. Great alarms. Really big with our canada bro's. I hope you got some money back because that was wack on how they over charged you. What was the out come?

Nope. Didn't get anything back. Dude behind the counter said yeah, it is built in, but they always use another relay. Hmmm...

sorry but make them show you the relay. I don't see how they would use it. I would make a stink about it.
