If you are just looking for quality and not slammin bass. I would suggest getting an affter market componet set for the front 3-ways for the back and a bazooka tube for bass. You can get the bazooka tube with a built in amp so it is more compact and easier to install.

Like mentioned, you need to post a budget.
Here's a equation that always works....one powerful 4 channel amp, a single 12 in sub and a pair of components for the front. You do not need any rear speakers.
If it was me, I would run an Arc Audio 4150 to a pair of rainbow components, and one IDQ12".

www.ampmanaudio.com this place has reasonable prices and the highest end stuff ive seen on the net
Rainbow is currently being distributed by the folks over at arc, so you can get info at their site.... http://www.arcaudio.com If you want info about Image Dynamics, then go to their site, http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com Unfortunately, their site is awful, but their product and customer support is top notch (get Matt at ID started on the phone, and it's tough to get him stopped!!)
There are a ton of other component sets that I would look at...a/d/s/ 3 series would be at the very top of the list as well. I ran a full a/d/s/ system in another system, and it's really great stuff. Especially now that they are backed/owned by Directed.
You could do all a/d/s/ - 346is components, 312rs.2 sub, and one PQ40.2 would sound really great. If you know where to look, you can get it for less than 1500 online.
I would also look into OZ components, CDT, the Image Dynamics Chameleons are great as well (I'm using some of the CX chameleons as dedicated midbasses in my new system). Maybe even Diamond (especially if you can find the 1998 HEX sets that were made by Eton in Germany), Focal Polykevs, MBQ Qseries (the last two are not for my ears, but yours may like them)
The key is install...set about 400 aside just to do it correctly. That would cover wires, a box, sounddeadening (go get some raammat) and other misc. stuff. You may not go through all of it, but the best gear in the world will sound like **** if you don't install it correctly.

Everyone here seems to be on the MB Quart bandwagon. If I was doing sound quality in this car, which doesn't really make sense to me, I would go for the Boston Acoustic Pro Series, or the Pioneer Premier Reference Series. The Pioneer Reference Series (kevlar cone), I had in my last car in kick panels, and they were unbelievable really. Pretty high dollar but worth every penny in my book. Absolutely brilliant and incredibly beautiful, it was a shame to put the covers back on after showing them off.
The Boston Acoustic Pro Series I have never lived with every day but I had a good friend who had them, and they were incredibly nice. Really crisp, a great full sound, and high build quality, just everything you could ask a speaker to be.
I have heard many a MB Quart setup and they just aren't to my taste. We all have our opinions and car audio is something that is very subject to opinion and personal preference, I would just say use the suggestions on this board and go listen, buy what you like not what someone tells you is good.
I would also like to back up rcurley, installation and setup is incredibly key. You can get cheap stuff to sound really good and make the best stuff sound like crap all by the way it is setup. So how you install and set it up is very important.
Just my thoughts.
Good luck in your search.

I'm helping a buddy with an R upgrade his system shortly. Here's what we're going with:
5.25" Kenwood components (he had them lying around)
JL Audio 300/4 (75x2 for the fronts, 150x1 for the sub)
JL 10W3D6 (in a MDF enclosure behind the rear seat, between the strut towers)
Monster Cable Micro XLN RCAs and 4 gauge power wires.
PAC LC-1 (inline with subwoofer signal to control level)
Dynamat Extreme door kit (2pks, 24 sq.ft)
All this will be running off the factory deck's front speaker outputs.

yeah dyanudio, Rainbows, etc rock. But goodluck with only 1500 bucks. Plus, like mentioned, with no dynomat or sound proofing, you are going way overboard with Rainbows or Dynaudio.
These are some prices i have found online, but it was awhile ago, so they might be different.
Deck,(pick one: alpine eclipse, etc. look for 4v+ pre outs x 3)-$300-400
Diamond Hex 6.5's/ID chameleons 6.5's (silk dome tweeter for diamonds)$365-390
single 10" sub( who knows which, id go with a jl w3 because they are so cheap)-$150-200
Quality, i repeat QUALITY 4 channel amp. 2 channels for the highs, and bridge two channels for the sub. $450-500
Bingo, 1500 bucks and you have yourself a pretty sick system.
By way, INSTALL IS KEY!!!!!!!
