What system do i need ?
Okay, i'm an extreme noob when it comes to anything that has to deal with systems. I'm geared to performance over sounds so i don't want alot of " BOOMING BASS " that will make my car heavy, but i do want more than what the stock speakers allow.
Anyway, the car will be a 90-93 accord 2dr with plans for the backseat to be removed if needed ( i'm 6'5 aint nobody sitting back there anyway ).
Can you guys suggest ( i know this might be asking alot ) something that will be somewhat inexpensive, fit in the area of the backseat, not too much in weight and make a noticable improvement over the stock sound ?
If i can just get what i'm asking from just some better speakers that can fit in place of my stock ones i'd be happy then. I just want more sound from the cars music system.
BTW: Can you guys name a couple of companies that provide the products ?
THANKS GUYS ! ! ! ( damn that sounded like a big request )

jl audio, eclipse, alpine, audio control, diamond, focal, denon, mephis this is some of the big names
brands to stay away from:
pioneer, sony, anything you could possiblly buy at a wall mart for instance

Ok so according to what i'm looking for, what would you suggest i do ? I don't know how to set things up or anything so most likely it's going right to the shop.
Take out the backseats and put a " box " back there ( wtf does that mean ? ) ?
Or just replace my stock speakers with better ones ?

1. upgarde the head unit
2. upgrade the stock speakers to something better....when buying a speaker listen to them dont just buy one someone tells you to listen and find one that has a sound you like.
3. amplify the system look into buying a amp"s"
4. sub and amp if you want more bass
5. signal proccessing a must.....eq, crossover,blah, blah, blah

Is that foreign language or what ? lol
Well thanks forthe help and thats exactly what i plan to do. One of my friends has 2 10"s put together in this box thing with plexiglass on the front. It looked good as hell but , when it was in the car it sounded like pure asscheeks.
I'll look into upgrading my stockers.
What is a good amount of watts for an amp ? And i don't want to spend too much, i mean i don't think i'm asking for that much performance from the system. Probably around $500. Thats mostly what my pockets will allow.

how about an upgraded deck.
then a set of 6.5 speakers for the front. some nice (to you) two ways for the mids and highs.
then a 4 channel amp thats bridgeable with built in high and low pass crossovers.
then a single 12 inch sub in whatever 'light' box you can put it in.
deck is the most important thing you need for starters.
forget the rear speaks. as you say that no ones back there anyway.
4 channel amp are pretty common so you can get one for a good price.
bridgable with Xovers will let you run your sub and fronts from one amp, with no hassels.
single sub for weight reduction and what not.
for the amp, buy the one with the most output that you can afford.
good luck.

The Deck is the headunit, ie the CD player and or radio.
2 ways for highs and mids means your buying coaxials, not components. they provide sound for 2 frequency ranges, your high range and your mid range frequencies. just so you know, bass = low frequency, treble= high frequency.
high and low pass = the amp only lets through certain frequencies so your tweeters arent getting the ultra lows and your sub isnt getting hte highs.
hope that helps.

For starters, any speakers placed in the rear shelf with the back seat removed are essentially worthless.
IMO rear speakers are worthless anyway
.
I would keep the factory head unit for right now - if you like the source unit (i.e. it's a CD player) you can use a high quality line level coverter (takes the speaker wire and converts it to an amplifier friendly connection). This will conserve a considerable amount of your budget.
Next buy a nice set of component speakers for the front. You could even get away with a nice set of co-ax. Component speakers are also called separates. Typically, they come with three parts:
1. a tweeter - plays the high frequency sounds - i.e. a cymbal crash
2. a midbass/midrange - plays most of the vocals, guitars and some bass, etc
3. a crossover - this part make sure that the right frequencies go to the right speakers....you don't want that little tweeter trying to play bass notes.
There are tons of sets that will work for you. On your budget, I would recommend that you go to circuit city, or the good guys and go audition some speakers. Infinity References are good budget component sets and are found cheap on eBay.
Next, it would be nice to have an amplifier. If you want your speakers to play loud and clear, you need power. I would second the recommendations for a nice 4 channel. Now we already know what a crossover is (it divides the frequencies among speakers) so it would be nice to have one of these built into the amp on each channel (called built in high and low pass crossovers).
A high pass crossover passes only the high frequencies, and takes the bass out, a low pass lets the low frequencies through. So use a low pass on a subwoofer, and a high pass on the component set.
Now the next thing would be to buy a subwoofer with a box. I feel that a sub is essential to any sound system. For your needs, a small woofer (10" in diameter) will be both small and easy on the weight. The box is often heavier then the driver it'self. I would go to sounddomain.com and look at the IDv3's from image dynamics.
If it was me, I'd get the following:
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/ORIXTR5004
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/IDSID10V3D2
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/QLCQLH6510SX
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...32819
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/PERVEN4
Then go to Walmart and get a 4 ga amp kit from Scoche
I would think that that setup would fall in your budget and would sound pretty sweet. You could find some better deals if you looked harder, I put this together in 5 minutes.
