What to do to keep from getting your deck jacked?
I just bought a new deck, and the way i mounted it with the kit i bought from best buy it can easily come out. So that means even with an alarm and club/autolock it would take a thief 10 seconds to break the window get in and pull the deck out. Is there any way I could lock it in somehow? It's one of those lcd ones and it cost me a pretty penny. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
i think this thread belongs in the audio forum, you might get more response there, i did a quick search and found an old post of mine. i think you should get rid of that mount kit, i used to use one temporarily, try to fabricate a bracket so you can use your din pocket... i used plumbers tape and tied it from the deck to the chassis... here is ONE preventive measure i took:
there isn't much you can do. if they want it they will get it. i would rather have them take the $300 deck than destroy the $700 dash.
Yeah I wouldn't try to keep the deck from getting jacked.. Cause they will probably end up breaking more stuff trying to get it out.. An old co-worker of mine had his car lit on fire cuz they couldn't get the deck out.. Some people are scanless like that.. The best you can do is not show it off.. or get theft insurance..

my Alpine head unit came w/ a small metal strap that had a bunch of holes and there was a nut that you screw it in on the back of the head unit that you can strap it down.. in addition to using that.. I went ahead and used an additional strap... my dad happened to have some additionaly metal strap left over from our new water heater.... your supposed to strap the water heater to the wall to prevent it from tipping or whatever in the event of an earthquake..
anyway I took the leftover metal strap from the water heater and bolted it to the back of the head unit and onto the horizontal chassis bar behind the dash (I think its some type of crash beam.. dunnoz.. but yeah thats what I did.. very similar to the pic above...

my best friend has had 3 decks stolen from him. The first one, he had the faceplate locked in the glove compartment, they broke it and took it. The second time, he left his faceplate on and they just took the whole thing. The third time, he had the face plate off but he shoved it under his seat where "nobody would think to look." of course they checked there and got that and his deck (not to mention his 10s in the enclosure and amp). So he's had his dash destroyed and his glove box destroyed.
I used to take my face plate with me wherever i went. It's a small inconvience for the peace of mind. I like to think that a thief doesn't want to bother with taking the deck if he can't find the face. Even if they do take it, you'll only have to buy the deck from the manufacturer (you'll need your original documentation though.) Now i just roll with my old *** kenwood cd deck that you can literally pull out with NO force. If somebody wants to steal that piece of ****, they deserve it more than i do.

well if you own a 7th gen honda civic, i make a fake face plate for the car. may not stop a thief from taking the stereo, but it will deter them cause it looks stock.

Where can I find a metal strap like that? I just went to home depot and really didn't know where to look. And their help really led me to no where.
Plumbing supplies, or possibly electrical. I think they use it to secure pipes.
