Upgrading to A High Output Alternator
My car is having problems and the alternator need replaced. This is the 3rd alternator in around 3 years, and i believe that upgrading to a higher out put alternator would solve the problem. I have been reading up about them around the forum but i still have a few questions.
What Brand would you suggest. I do need anything that creates too much power, i just need something that is more than stock.
Would I need to upgrade the gauge of the wires on the alternator. Which wires do i need to swap out, and with what size wire?
Thanks for the help guys.

I use Tsunami alt all the time, They are a little pricey but I have no had any problems with them and the warrenty is great, You can find cheaper ones on the net and other companies, But I cant vouche for them. I like to stick with something that I know works and if there is a problem I can shipp it right back. You are going to need to upgrade the power wires from the alt to the battery and redo all the grounds. It called "the bigg Three". I try to get all my customers to do this first. And you can see the diffrence too. MAke sure you use good gauge wire through out your system. Tsunami, Streetwire,Rockford Fosgate, and some other companies make real good power cable, Some Companies say they sell 4 gauge wire. Most are not, they are 8 or 10 gauge with 4 gauge coating on it-They make it thick to look like 4 gauge.
yes you should always upgrade the factory wiring when upgrading ur alternator.
Go with a 2 awg or 1 awg. If u have amps just match the wiring u have for them.
We use wrangler alternators at my work, they work great, they are custom made to order. I would assume tsunami's would be decent too.

You can get away with four gauge, for a factory alt, even for a aftermarket, dempending on the ampere of the alt. Do not reuse the factory connections, Get yourself some good gold or chrome quality connection. not some cheap ones that flake off.
I was thinking about making a couple of "big three kits" to ship to members on the site, integra's-civic's-accord's or what ever. they would have to be custom made to order and would be a direct fit. I say this is a good cheap upgrade that will help with dimming and get more power to your amps. Anyone give me some feedd back.
