Alternator load problem?
Hi guys,
I have a 1995 Integra LS that eats alternators and destroys batteries. At one point many years ago I replaced the stock alternator with a Pepboys made in Mexico alternator. The first pepboys alternator lasted a few years and then died, and took a battery with it. The pepboys alternator has a lifetime warranty so I got another. 2 years ago alternator died again and killed another battery. At that time I tested and replaced the ELD circuit - it tested bad. The 3rd alternator died 5/21.
I replaced it with a Honda alternator from a donor integra.
At idle I see 14.44 volts at the battery terminals, and 14.66 volts at the alternator output terminal to alternator casing. Is a .2 volt difference between alternator output to battery voltage normal? Nothing on the net about this.
Edit: At idle after warming up I see 14.3v at the battery terminals
Battery was 13v this morning. Charged up to 13.4 after a drive to work. All seems well

Re: Alternator load problem?
Update: Pepboys alternator was bench tested as good, but output was 15v (not sure how an alternator that boils batteries translates into a passed test) anyway Pepboys gave me a 4th re-manufactured alternator. Hopefully I never need it.

Re: Alternator load problem?
15 was the old alternator. New alternator is 14.2-14.4. My question is should the output voltage to alternator case on the alternator match battery terminal voltage? It doesn't. I'm 0.2 volts higher at the alternator
