Whilst mooching and looking for install and wiring so I can plan my sub install and speaker upgrade I noticed 2 3" square black boxes on the underside of the rear shelf between the 6x9 speakers , these have TDK stamped on them, they look like crossovers but if they are are they seem a little overkill for the poor 15w speakers installed that appear to be original !!!
Anyone know what these are ??
Does/did the car have a premium sound system of some sort?
Those look like amplifiers judging by the toroid coils inside.
How many wires are in the connectors plugged in? If they are amps, there should be two for speaker level input and at least one for +12 volt( assuming they are using the mounting points for ground, if not chassis ground there should be a ground wire ). Then there will be two wires going out to each of the speakers. A little checking with a multimeter should help.
This is all spit balling though...I am unfamiliar with premium factory systems in these cars.
when i checked Vin it didnt come back as having the premium stereo, it had the stock boot 6cd changer from Pioneer, and a Pioneer Headunit up front with a tape deck, the speakers are 15w 6x9 on the shelf and no idea in the doors as not looked but doubt anything but factory, ive since removed the tape deck and fitted a bluetooth head from Sony and now getting strange noises from the dash LOL, will reinstall the pioneer and see if goes away
