trunk layout(?)
Hey I was wondering if any of you guys could give me some ideas as to how to build a trunk layout for my 01 civic sedan. I have a JL 12X3 sub and I plan to get another one to match it, plus I want to put nitrous in there too...anyone know what to use to build it (wood?) or know where I can find designs for layouts (like how to cut the wood and where to mount it onto the trunk).
Also, does anyone know about the space below the back seats in an 01 civic sedan? I have an XBox I want to install so that I can operate it from inside my car (hopefully mounting it below my seat). Is it possible to use that space, or is there valuable crap under the car there (i know the exhaust is off to one side, what about other stuff?). Is it possible to maybe carve out a portion of the seat and mount the box in there?...I need some serious advice.
I tried searching, hopefully I didn't miss something obvious on other threads.

Im not thinking clearly enough to help you at the moment, 21st Bday, plus being the worst day in my life almost.. kind of gets to you.
Anyways... what I can say is, if you dont know the layout of the car or how to do it yet, You probably do not have the skills to get your vision going. I know this because I was and sorta still am the same way.
Concentrate on wiring everything up, and getting it working, once you've done that, (with things in general locations...) you can work on polishing it up. It might also be self designing with all the stuff you listed.

Well, I had the stereo installed at a store (it was my birthday present, sort of). So right now I have a head unit, new speakers, an Alpine 350W amp, and a JL 12" sub. All that is installed in my civic, but the sub is coming out of its mounting (since it's just a box with a few screws holding it in). Granted, I could take it back and have them fix it, but considering that a)They installed it for free and b)They would just redo the same crappy job, I would much rather not even bother. I figure that if I eventually want a trunk setup, I might as well just do it now so I can mount my sub better. Either that or I pay someone to do it...but I don't wanna get charged a bunch of money for something as simple as sawing some wood, painting it, and bolting it in.
I'm just curious if someone around here could either tell me how to make a trunk layout or direct me to a thread/website where they talk about building trunk setups. I have seen a few pictures of trunk layouts on this site, but just knowing what it looks like when it's done doesn't help me to know the process...

haha well, if you want, I can show you mine, which is not exactly a sexy set up (it is for me, but not my ultimate job since I may lose this car this summer)... but Extremely effective and protective of my amp, while keeping the trunk OEM enough to pass onto another if it sold. The sub unit and the board it is attached to also is very functionable.. sticks in place, and can unhook and come out of the trunk, and back in again within 30 seconds... restoring any lost space.
well, i can't expect my trunk layout to look perfect either if it's my first one.
It would be nice though! I just need to get my sub into a much more sturdy mount...after I went drifting last weekend, my sub came partially out of its mounting
!

haha, ok, well then, Mine might be good for you... you can see it in this thread

unless you want to listen to some major bass while "drifting" You can just take out the heavy sub and mount seconds before you go out, and put it back in just as fast, and it IS completely solid, not going anywhere. You will see why though.

I dont drift, and I wouldnt want my equipment in such an violent sport... but my guess for a "good reason" to leave it in is to improve the weight distribution. (they can weight like 40-60lbs sometimes) Dunno how his car drifts... only way I can do mine would be Ebrake and going in reverse lol
I left the sub in by accident when I went drifting...woops...normally I empty my trunk so it slides better. The weight in the trunk doesn't usually help, I don't think. I just empty it out of precaution (usually
) anyways...haven't looked up the physics on momentum with the weight in the back. The way I drift (since I'm front whell drive) is by either a)yanking the e-brake or jb)going about 80 , turning one way and then turning the wheel the other way (oversteer). I have yet to try reverse (as badass as that sounds), but I have pulled a couple of J-turns
.
As crazy as this sounds, if you want to save your tires some stress, you can drift at lower speeds in the rain for practice...just find a large open parking lot and go crazy.
Back to the topic, though: I like the looks of your setup, CooBlueDAB. I'm thinking more along the lines of a full setup that would be permanently bolted into the trunk, but that 30-second removable sub is a sick idea I might have to take

haha yeah, ease of removal is great. The amp is solid... its protected and vented enough for it... I can stand on it and jump, and I bet I wouldnt crack its box. I made it to be covered in pop and such for deliveries once in a while... The Sub support as you can see, fits around that perminantly bolted in amp case... (amp case has 4 bolts going down into the OEM floor board stuff.. ) It was made to slide with maybe a milimeter of space around those fittings.. once I added carpet, it is totally tight and grips it like a ****...
The rear is held in by the rear of the trunk, so effectively, it is being squeezed by the amp box and the rear of the trunk, end result... Awesomeness lol... all you have to do to remove it is disconnect the speaker wires from the sub, grab the sub support board with 2 hands and pull it up and out from the rear sides... Id suggest adding E tape to the ends of the speaker wires though.. so it doesnt short.
as for reverse drift, lol I basically mean 180s... go 20-25 in reverse, or less, cut it, and get it moving forward lol.. thats the only way I can get the rear to slide.

cool. Ya lately I have been working on hacking my xbox
but I think as soon as i finish that, I'm gonna try to rebuild my trunk with a couple of my friends' help. Thanks for the idea.
