troubleshooting checklist...
My subwoofer has been cutting in and out recently.
I tried the following things this evening:
Double checked turn on lead at amplifier....little loose-tightened the connection. Amp has been keeping power btw, just did this to be sure.
Checked for loose wiring between amp and subwoofer box.
Checked for loose wiring between terminal cup and woofer.
switched rca's from rear channels of my other amp, to subwoofer amp.
switched subwoofer wiring to bridged rear channels of other amplifier.
All of this, and the sub either remained off, or cut on and off at random( which was the original problem ).
I double checked all fuses, and distribution block connections.
I will check rca leads tomorrow with a meter, but am assuming they are good- since the problem was consistent when I swapped a known good set over.
My system consist of:
Eclipse head unit.....cd 3000 I think....has front, rear, and non fading rca outputs. Crossover is not turned on in the head unit.
Aura force 2150 amplifier to subwoofer. bridged mono. low-pass set for around 60hz.....yes I tried stereo on both channels, no output.
Aura force 4200 for highs. All four channels known to work, but when bridged three channel, I still had no sub.
subwoofer is an older kicker c12....03 model I believe, single 4 ohm coil. Enclosure is about 2.7net cubic feet tuned to around 35 hz......I think, been a while since I built it.
Is it possible my sub gave up or is in process of giving up the magic smoke? I have not heard any odd sounds, nor smelled anything or seen evidence of smoke ......but I know that doesn't really mean anything.
I also need to wire the sub amp to a known good woofer, and see what happens. May also try wiring sub directly amp, and bypass terminal cup just for good measure.
I guess I just want to know if I am missing anything I need to check off????
also, any suggestions for a reasonably priced replacement, it the sub has gone to electronics pile in the sky?? I'm guessing I have about 300 watts rms to throw at a sub.....amp is rated for 150x2, and 450ish x 1, but specs were unclear if that was rms. So I am taking it for max power ratings. Yes, btw, these were some of the parts express buyout amplifiers

Try this. When the sub cuts off push on the cone a lil. If it pops back on the vc are done. It seems that you checked out everything before you posted for help
This is more then some do. What is your budget for a new sub ?

I could probably go about 150-175 dollars. Don't want to cheap out, but do not need the most expensive subs either.
Deffinitely needs to be fairly efficient, since I do not have thousands of watts available.
I listen to mostly rock/alternative rock/punk. I do occasionally listen to some rap/r&b, techno....and lots of old bass head cd's....but only when the mood strikes.
