Default Time For A New CD deck?

My CD Player in my 2000 CRV is not working properly. It will still play CD's... sometimes, and when it does, it seems like only half of the lazer eye is working properly. I say this because there is about 2 seconds of clear normal music, followed by 2 seconds of muffled lyrics. This cycle repeats itself over and over. Sometimes I get the error sign and the CD's will not play at all. I Have tried cleaning the deck with a cleaning disk, so I don't think its dirt. Stupid question right? Go out and buy a new deck... I wish I had the money for it haha. So while I save up for a new deck, is there any thing i can do to fix this problem? Thanks for any help! Ohh and maybe somebody can direct me to a decent affordable CD Deck as well?

You can pull the HU and send it for repair, if it is a simple cleaning and lens alignment it will cost about $75-$100, if it is anything else, [damaged lens/laser, transport or processor it can be a lot more and not worth the repair, I have seen OEM HUs come back with $400-$600 repair bills.

I would try a reboot, just in case it's just a processing error, disconnect batt. neg.(-) wait 15min. and reconnect, see if it solves the problem, if not save your pennies get an aftermarket HU, keep the stock one and reinstall it if you sell or trade the car. 94

If you want a DD replacement look at an in-dash dvd unit.

The "Warm Amber" color setting on the Clarion DXZ655MP matches the amber dash lighting of the CR-V perfectly. I got my sister the DXZ655MP after her stock CD deck started displaying the same problems as yours.

if the reboot doesn't work, try a lens cleaner.

It's a cd with small brushes on it that remove dirt from the lens. Worked great on all of my cd players

^^^^^ notice that he said he tried that. Also watch what you buy on flea bay. You might end up paying twice for a radio.
