Default thermal light on amp?

ok, i had a really weak amp trying to power my L7, it was barely hitting so my friend let me have his old amp that he used to use.. we just hooked it up and the amps not powering the sub at all and the "Thermal" light comes on.. does anyone know wtf that means? also when we were in the process of switching amps, 2 of the wires sparked, so do you think we possibly shorted out the conneciton?

What model of the L7?
What is the make and model of the amp?

When you shorted, ["2 of the wires sparked"] the power and ground leads together, did it not blow the fuse on the power lead, by the batt.? 94

If the main power fuse is an AGU, [big glass type fuse] replace it even if it looks good.
Also, disconnect subs speaker wires from amp and see what happens.

Touching the power and ground together should not do anything to the amp. 94
