Default Subwoofer Problem

I have had my system in my old four door and when i moved it over to my new coupe, I have started to encounter problems with the subwoofers. When the head unit is turned on, randomly the subs cut in and out and make this loud banging sound (kind of like thunder)... This banging sound can happen like 15 times in a row or only once. It varies and frankly i am getting so annoyed at it. I replaced the rca cable from the head unit to my crossover and the rca cable from the crossover to the amp and still no fix. I am stuck on what i should do and i am to the point where i am gonna toss the system. If anyone knows what might be wrong, let me know.... thanks guys...

what kind of electronic xover is it? i used to have a cheapo xover that would pick up all kinds of engine noise with the bass boost on, but not with it off. is it grounded to the bare chassis, not through paint, etc. temporarily bypass the xover and use the amp on board xover instead and see if the problem persist or goes away, that will let you know if its the xover or not.

i originaly had some best buy rca cable in there and it is ow replaced with a rockford fosgate cable. it is not run next to any power wires. the noise that is being given off is not any engine noise, its just pure loud rumble that is extremely annoying... all of the connections are good (not loose)... it is a soundstorm crossover (given to me from my friend's girl's car where it was working fine)... the grounds are ran right to the top of the strut tower in the back of the car, i do not believe there is paint there... so keep the suggestions comin...

It sounds like a loose connection somewhere, double check you haven't accidentally screwed a terminal down onto the cables insulation as well.

ok, here is more than likely your problem.. sound storm xover? i mean come on.... really... ok try this, unplug your rca's from the xover.. plug them directly into your amp, see if the problem still exist, if it goes away, its that xover.

Usually any whining or pops coming from speakers is a ground problem (usually it seems like its gone or just comes and goes). Sanding paint from metals chassis and even covering the ground wires with plastic tubing will help also (especially for a situation I had for over three years considering saturn makes horrible grounds for their vehicles.

If this doesn't work look at re-grounding your head unit ground. Factory radio grounds have other items grounded to the same point and can create ground loops.

Why are you using an external crossover?
