In case you don't know what MDF is, it stands for Medium Density Fiberboard and it's the standard box-building/car audio fabrication material. You can get it at any lumber store.

You can use Russian Birch (3/4", 11 ply). It will save some weight, but cost a bit more. Your local lumber store may not carry it.

birch would be better than MDF. lately, i have noticed that good MDF can only be bought in specialty stores. most of the mdf i see at my local hardware store and lumber yards are pretty shitty.

make sure your box does not leak and is barely vibrating. vibrations means losing energy, losing energy means lower SPL levels. bracing is a good way to stop vibrations and 1" faces instead of the .75" norm.

Plywood is very splintery, and I think it would be harder to cut in a circle.

You can even use 1'' MDF or two Pieces of 3/4'' MDF stuck together if you want to get crazy. I have done this a few time for W7's and other extreamly large and heavy subs

I have been around a long time, and although I have seen sub cabinets made of plywood, even made a few myself, [marine grade Birch] I have yet to see any good quality sub cabinets made of plywood, in fact most home subs I have seen are made with particle board as are most home speaker cabinets, the higher end speaker and sub cabinets are made with MDF or solid hardwoods. 94
