I personally like the Infinity Perfects (the 12") (sound quality...not really for spl) but Have not heard the 10"...
good sound quality and spl subs like the eclipse lines also can't do you wrong...
I try to reasearch opinions or faults about subwoofer and amps on http://forum.sounddomain.com/ it's difficult to ask a question because people post up there waaaay too much before searching, but it makes good reading material.

$150 for amp.
$50 for sub.
$50 for box.
Shop around for prices.
You could probably do ok used for 250, but for new, and some good quality, I would get an Adire Audio Shiva and a JBL 300.1 amp. That's about $300, and you have gotten some pretty good gear. The Shiva is a sweet sub, and while the JBL is cheap, it's gotten good reviews and performs pretty well.

hmm $250 isnt that much to work w/ for both amp and sub.. the Infinity Perfect and Alpine Type R subs are pretty good for decent prices ...
I would stay away from Sony car audio..

circuit city, good guys, best buy usually has those 2 for 1 dealz like every week or every other week.. if thats what your looking for.. just check your sunday times (or whatever your paper is called) and look in the ads... they have stuff like 2 for 1 deals on subs... or free subs w/ purchase of amp over $250 or whatever.. its not top notch stuff.. but then hey.. for $250.. ur not really going to get top notch... but yeah if thats what your lookin for.. check ur sunday ads in the paper..

alright thanks guys, just need some advise. my friends and i are makin a few sub boxes in wood shop (i love being a senior)
i have one 10" MA audio sub...with some crappy Ultimate 350 watt amp..but dayam...it hits harder and cleaner than alot of peoples 2 12"s setups...
I little while ago i got two Rockford He2's. there about $180 a peice. There 400 rms, 800max, they kick nicely and the bass is crisp. I also run a Alpine v12 mrv-t747 amp, which retailed at about $425. The setup is nice, and sounds good. If u dont wanna spend that much look into the rockfords or the alpine typer subs. there all pretty good. I think the alpine amps r the way to go. Rockford has a nice 10" punch at around $70. Alpine makes a number of amps i'd recommend the MRV-T320 or something of that level. For just one 10" you dont need a crazy amp. You might be able to get nice setup for little less then 400 if u shop around. Good luck.
anything at 250, isnt gunna be good.
Dont forget your gunna need a box at least $50, cable- to battery, to amp, to subs, to radio. easly $80. Subs- $70 minium for desent quality. Desent amp to power your sub at least $200. that at. $400 and you'll get something you wont have to replace in 6 months.

The Sony subs are not bad at all for the price. I get to play with them all the time. Just don't buy a Sony amp. If you need help with designing a box drop me an email.
if you put any sub in the right enclosure it will pound. your little particle board box you pick up at any chain store is not going to make anything pound. If you spend the time and do the math to build a decent enclosure you can make the cheapiest speaker sound at least good. For example, I have a pair of diamond m3101.8's doing a 151.8db on the dash (legal).
You are better off sometimes to save up a little more and buy good quality products, It willl pay off in the long run. I second the adire audio recommendation. they are not the best looking subs but are great for the price. You can get them at deltasoundworks.com
