Stereo system for the rex?
At first, I most definatly was not going to get a stereo system for the crx. I figured that it woud hurt the speed and handleling of the car. What can I say, i love speed but, i love music to. I was just going to replace the stock speakers with some pioneers or xplods but then i heard my friends brother-in-laws accord. it sounded some tight. it was just a single 12 solo kicker but it sounded nice. Does anybody know how i can get some bump without the weight in my trunk. Is there a way to mount just the speaker in the car and not have a heavy box. Also, do any companies make light weight speaker boxes. Thanks, all is appriciated.
I have a 10 inch bazooka bass tube, my bro gave me it. It hits perfectly fine. Doesnt weigh all that much, has a built in amp. Only pushes out a winpy 100watts but it bumps nice. As for speakers, i have Acura CL Bose front speakers, and the rear i stuffed Acura CL Bose 6X9's in the stock rear speaker location in my CRX. Sound great
Oh yea, tweeters would help too, my cheap Motorola tweeters made a big difference, makes everything sound more crisp. Its a nice simple setup that works great..Yea, it won't win any competitions or anything like that, but hey, you just want a simple setup right?

Just replacing the head unit helps sound quality a lot. When I replaced mine with a sony xplod mp-something, I was amazed at how much better even the blown paper speakers sounded.
I went with boston acoustics nx series 6 inch speakers for the doors. They sound really awesome. If you're not going to amp them, the cheaper fx series will sound just as nice. And I've seen fx's going on ebay really cheap. You do need to put a spacer between the frame of the door and the speaker so your window can close and open. The BA speakers come with the spacer. Don't listen to people that tell you only 5 1/4s fit.
Don't bother with rears. You don't need em.
For the sub, I'm waiting on some BA pro series 10" subs to come in. I'm going to make a custom stealthy fitted "composite" enclosure for them in the spare tire well. The enclosure shouldn't weigh too much but good subs are heavy. I hear the subs weigh 30lbs each.
I've got a 2nd gen crx btw.
I'll post my results when i get done.

either make the box out of .5" thick MDF or spend a bit more and get baltic birch. i would opt for baltic birch even though it cost twice as much as MDF.
get a 4 channel amp for your speakers and run a dedicated sub amp for your sub.
i'd get 2 8" tangband subwoofer. its affordable and doesn't need much space. or a single elemental designs 10" k-series will do

Alright, here is my suggestion. Last night I was in my friends truck, and he has a 600 Watt Kenwood amp (you might want a dif amp) and two Alpine R-type 10's. Sounded way better then I would have expected. A decent 600 watt max amp from alpine. (mrd- m300) wieghs somewhere near 8-9 pounds. (not to shabby) stock speakers aftermarket speakers blah blah blah. You lose maybe 2 pounds if you switch those out. You don't need an amp if you get a decent head unit.
You could get two 10's in a small sealed box for about 25-30 lbs. wireing 3 lbs. your not looking at much wieght there and trust me you will hear the difference eversecond. (If you really care that much, when you go to the track it takes 30 seconds to remove your subs, and then hook them back up when you are done)
Don't let anyone talk you into getting two amps. And this will be about the lightest set up you could run with decent sound.
