Yeah I dun wanna make two seperate topics...I posted this in the tech forum for the 92-00 civic/del sol forum...I didn't realize there was a security forum in honda-tech, so here's the thread, I need some help with keyless entry/alarm:
THREAD
I have a '95 EJ1 (Civic Coupe EX)
I did know that there was an audio forum here so I'ma ask my speaker question here...on most cars, uc an put a circle speaker in the front, and an oval in the back...in my old probe I had 6 1/2's or 5 1/4's in the front and 5x7's in the rear...I'm shopping for a new speaker system for my civic since the one I was going to pull on the probe is a. useless b/c of the rear speaker size, and b. somebody basically stole the head unit..and it really seems with honda-civics..from waht I searched, that the front actually takes a larger speaker than the rear, this is what I found:
Front: 5 1/4's or 6 1/2's
Rear: 5 1/4's
Is this right? Circuit city has a nice deal on all spakers where u buy 2 of the same set u get 50% off of the 2nd set...so if I buy 5 1/4 speakers (all 4 the same), they should fit in both the front, and the back, right? They come with with conversion harnesses for the speakers, which leads me to part 2 of the question...are the connectors in the front the same as the connectors in the back? Like if I took the panels off and took off the front speaker (OEM), would it click right into the connector in the ones in the rear? Basically, are they all the same plug? Because I was searching on crutchfield and circuity city's website and it seems they have the whole "fit" or "not fit" ur car deal and if they have something like a pair that fits the front doors...will it also fit in the rear deck? (with the same speaker harness 'n all)
So if I pull the front speaker, will it plug into the rear port (all OEM), or would I have to sodder it?
The thing that's confusing is that all the sites say that my car takes 5 1/4's or 6 1/2's in the front, and 5 1/4's in the back....but when u look at the spakers in the rear, they don't look circular at all, they look very much oval...or is that just the cover? Are the stock OEM's 5 1/4's? Or are they oval?
Can somebody help me out on this, I'm trying to figure out these honda speakers...

Both front and rear speakers should be standard 6.5", [not to be confused with the new over-sized 6.5"] although 5.25" can be installed in the front without any problem, but a 6.5" is needed for the rear deck.
The front and rear speaker terminals are the same, however they will not fit the aftermarket speaker, but just like the HU harness adapter, a speaker harness adapter is available.

Ya, I know I have to sodder them or buy the harness (think the harnesses come free with the ones from crutchfeld)...but ur sure they're 6.5 all around? I have a '95 EX Coupe -- both circuity city & crutchfeld read that they take 5.25" and the front could take either that or a 6.5, but that the rear couldn't take a 6.5 :-\
and what the hell does "oversized" 6.5 mean?

http://www.lowrider.com/inform...h.php the best way to be sure is just pull one of the rear speakers.
A standard 6.5" speaker, [like your car uses] is round and uses 3 screws to mount it in a 5" mounting hole, the new over-sized 6.5" speakers will have mounting holes larger then 5" and normally use a 4 screw mounting system, and are diff. from make to make, unlike the standard 6.5", where all the makes have at least the 3 screw mount system, [most have 6 screw holes] and all use a 5" mounting hole.

Well according to that they both take 6.5's
This is ******* annoying, can somebody just tell me what the hell it takes? Every single source tells me something different, circuit city says only 5.25's max, iono what crutchfeld said, and now this is saying 6.5's
Isn't this an audio forum? Don't people know about speaker sizes in civics? Isn't that what half of this entire forum is about??
Damn this is annoying
Okay, so I can use 6.5's...on a standard screw set....circuit city's website claims I can only use 5 and a quarters in the back..
I'ma pull the speakers on my car tomorrow or the next day and measure them.. But cansomebody just tell me on an EJ1 (92-95 EX Coupe), what speaker sizes will fit...?? This is really aggrivating...circuity city has the big "X" saying certain ones won't fit, even 6 1/2's.......I just don't understand this...can somebody plz help me out majorly on this...

f.c.m. told you twice what will fit. I don't know what you want to hear. You can put 5.25 in the front or 6.5 in the front. What ever you want that are between thoses two sizes. 6.5 will fit in the back.

Yo, I understand that for the front, 5 and a quater or 6 and half's will fit....but why on all the speaker store sites do they tell me that only 5 and a quarters'll fit in the back...it doesn't make sense as usually rear speakers are the same sizes are larger..but definately not smaller...but like circuit city and such claim that I need 5 and a quater's...want a screen shot? Just go to HERE, select 1995, Honda, Civic, 2 dr coupe (it's an EJ1 (EX)), and click "change speaker location" and u'll see what I mean, if not I"ll post a screen shot :-\
It's got all the 6&1/2's and 5&1/4's for the front, but only 5&1/4's for the rears....see what I'm sayin?

They use 2 diffrent systems to determine what will fit. You will be fine. I am doing a complete system this week in your car. I'll post pictures of me putting 6.5 in the back if it will help you and to make you feel better.

So before you have an aneurysm pull a rear speaker and you will know for sure.

94So Sorry if I'm unloadin on u guys :-X ****'s been harsh, I've been busy, haven't even seen the inside of the civic until today when I had to move it to get a big azz table in my basement...I think tomorrow I can schedule an appointment for tomorrow for that ******** to take the pictures so I can send the pictures and the receipt off to my insurance company in ****** phoenix AZ (ACross the country) so hopefully they can give me my insurance back but underwriting still has to review it to see if they can give me back comprehensive ('cause if I can't get comprehensive coverage back on it, the car's 2000lbs of a wallet implosion ready to happen, I'll need to sell it) and ****** underwriting will take 2 fukin weeks....it's rediculous
Wow, I'm sorry, I think tomorrow after I get the pictures of my honda taken I can pull the speakers and see what size they are, from what u guys say they're 6 and a half's so I should be able to go to circuity city or something and buy 4 of the same 6 1/2's and they should fit, right? Standard size, not deep...and I'ma buy the speaker harnesses so everything should go suade and I won't have to sodder nething...but u guys said the clips are the same...so if I'm packin 4 6 1/2's for the FRONT that circuit city & crutchfeld said they'd fit, (2 sets of 2) of the same exact speaker, it should fit & screw in fine and with the harness for the front should plug right up, right?
Like I said...sorry if I was comin off like an *******, shitload of stress 'n ****, and I'm not getting paid a lot (or I'm I'm getting paid at the same rate at the bills are coming in) so I've been in a really shitty mood lately and now that I was gonna buy my friend an alarm system for his '94 EX, I think I might want one for my '95 EX, and the alarm pros claim that I can't hook 'em up myself that I need pro installation which I can't drop 180 for both of 'em on installation of crap

Too much **** this week....too much **** this month
SOrry
No biggy, we all have our shitty days.
As for the alarm, not sure how it works in the states but up here, [Canada] all alarms come with at least one year "manufacturers defect warranty" no matter who installs it, as long as it's purchased at an authorized dealer, and most have a lifetime warranty if purchased and installed at an authorized dealer.

Basically, they told me I need a pro isntall, and the more I think about it, if a thief wants itno a honda, he's getting in, u'll need tons of $$$$$ in security to keep a thief out, and if the thief knows waht he's doing, even that won't stop it...ont like a benz or anythign w/ lazer programmed keys.....so w/ that asside, I move back to the speakers
I pulled the rear today, it was a 5 1/4 speaker, and I don't think a 6 1/2 will fit there....u guys sure a 6 1/2 will fit...because the 5 1/4 fits perfectly, it doesn't look like anything else will fit...help plz

bump, blah....nebody else sure it can fit 6 1/2's, b/c it's really small, the 5 1/4's barely fit in the back :-\
You sure u don't have to do some cutting to fit the 6 1/2's?

If it is a 5.25" speaker the that's all that will fit without custom work, unlike the front 6.5" locations that you can install a set of 5.25" speakers without custom work, 5.25" speaker mounting screw holes are already in the speaker housing along with the 6.5" speaker mounting screw holes.

ya, that's what I thought, so I'm not sure if I wanna go 6.5's in the front and 5.25's in the rear or just 5.25's all the way around :-\
5.25's will be hella cheap b/c u get discounts for buying the same speaker in a pair from CC

Although normally you would want to go with the bigger speaker, [bigger cone = moves more air = lower f3 point "better bass"] but as long as the 5.25" speaker is "sealed" once mounted, a lot of 5.25" are less then 5" in diameter, [either speaker is bigger then the 5" mounting hole or you make a gasket to seal the speaker] you will have a hard time telling the diff. between the two.
You could make a bigger difference in SQ by installing the 5.25" speakers on custom MDF speaker housings instead of the stock plastic ones, I would be willing to bet, everything being equal, that a 5.25" speaker mounted to custom MDF speaker housing will outperform a 6.5" version of the speaker mounted to the stock plastic housing.
And no, I do not mean a MDF "spacer", custom being the operative word here.
