speaker size???
hey just got my speakers jacked?????? why just thoes i do not know.but it sucks not having any music.what size do i need to get for the front speakers?thanks
Everyone says 6 1/2, i had the same problem, thats not the stock size. The stock size is 5 1/4 but most ppl dont reccomend that cause its not as loud as the bigger badder 6.5. I wanted to keep the stock speaker mounts so i went to best buy and got some alpine 5 1 /4 and they sound awesome!

Oh really?
Then explain to me how my hatchback has (4) 5.25" Clarion speakers installed in the stock locations?
I've had 6.5" door speakers before, they dont fit in the stock cups and if they have a deep magnet you risk scratching your window on them.
The rear speaker pods(hatchback) will never be able to fit 6.5's without being hacked to pieces.
This is all 1st hand experience, not some **** off of crutchfield.
If there are differences in models that i am unaware of please, enlighten me.

the speaker basket can fit a 6.5", but you TYPICALLY have to cut out the rear section to fit the larger magnet of any decent 6.5" speaker. a 5.25" speaker would work fine too and more conservative with the spacing. but a 6.5" is not risking anything.
the rears are 6.5 and have plenty of room for depth.

personally i could give a **** about your first hand experience for as you can see in this thread 75% say its 6.5 and 25% say its 5 1/4...i could just say that all speakers are 6.5 as first hand experience with the ef sedans but then again who gives a mierda.
crutchfield posted different specs and the link below posts other specs...what im amazed is how everyone in this thread really doesn't know wtf the op is referring to in vehicle so the way i see it everyone in here including myself failed.
no need to get your pantys in a bunch as always...!!!

well thanks for your help.now one more thing.when they jacked my speakers some how my heater wire cane out???? from the back by the fire wall.where does that go? thanks again
I didn't even think the hatches had rear speakers. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I know when I replaced the ones in the door they were 6.5, but I had troubles finding a set that would fit depth-wise. From what I've read, the '88-'91 hatches came with 5.25 and 6.5, either or, I would guess. Don't know how accurate the source is.

man do you even have a hatch? i fit several pair of six and a halves in the stock, oem, tilted brittle plastic speaker mounts that are super rare to find (they were blue) in my g/f's old hatch. didnt' have to do ANY mods at all to get them to fit. what makes a speaker fit is the cage size and magnet size. some speakers are sold as a 6.5" speaker but are actually caged a size smaller. some are sold as 6.5" speakers and are actually larger than that. example. i have a pair of sony explode two way speakers that DO fit into the front stock speaker baskets with no mods. i also have a pair of jvc speakers that do NOT fit into the basket with out mods because the cage and the magnet are larger.

My 5.25's FILL the inner diameter of the pods(and no, the cages are not that bulky). not to mention the fact that i had to cut out the tray to fit the magnets.
I'm not trying to argue that 6.5's can't be used, im just saying that they are not stock size, at least on hatchbacks.
BTW DCRB... those pods arent too rare around our area. I've come across several, even a set with OEM 5 1/4's and the covers for them.
