Default Some Box Questions.

First off, when a company suggests a volume for a sealed box, say .6 cubic feet, does that value include the displacement of the sub or not? Also, what type/gauge wire to run from the voice coils to the terminal inside of the box?

Thanks.

The enclosure volume is after subtracting sub displacement, and port displacement if applicable. The gauge of wire you want to run depends on what you have on hand 12-14 gauge should be fine.

The sub's displacement is only .05 cubic feet so it will work our perfectly. Thanks for your help.

That's not NECESSARILY true...some manufacturers provide GROSS numbers. Those numbers have already taken the woofer volume into consideration, while NET numbers require you to take port and driver size into considerion.

Image Dynamics is one company who uses gross numbers on their data sheets, so like with most things, YMMV.

Regardless, on a sealed design most woofers won't be adversely affected by a +/-10% change in box volume.

What a coincidence. The sub I have ordered is an Image Dynamics v3.
