Security...for a sub?
Going to put in a sub for my car. First sub i've gotten, wondering if it's common at all for them to be stolen? I'm building the enclosure myself, should I put some sort of locking mechanism on it so I can secure it to the trunk.
I wouldnt bother. Anything that thieves cant get out/take quickly tends to get destroyed either while trying to get it out or just because they are pissed. I would just get a nice 2 way paging alarm and call it a day. Once there in your car the damage is done so I would focus more on trying to stop it before that point.
It should be secured in the trunk somehow anyway, keep it from bouncing around, as has been mentioned, if they want it they will get it or destroy it, if box is secured they will just unscrew the sub.
Here's a trick though, disconnect the trunk release cable, so a key is needed to get into the trunk, and if you really want to mess with the crooks head, connect the release cable to a switch that will supply a ground to a relay that is connected to the cars horn.

Put an air horn inside the car (hooked up to the previously mentioned switch) and aim it at the trunk release lever. Once he pulls that lever, I'm sure he wouldn't want to try it again.
Edit: aim it not at the lever itself but at the area where the crook would be.

If I were doing it, I would stick it in the left side air vent. Some of the vent tubing would have to be cut to allow the horn to blow into it. There should be enough room behind the vent for the horn so that it isn't inside the tubing and doesn't restrict air flow to the vent.
