RMS vs Peak

what is the difference between the RMS and Peak power handling?
if i put 450W into a 350W RMS, 1400W Peak sub, will any damage be done to the sub?

RMS = Peak x 0.707
Peak = RMS x 1.414

Many power handling specs out there lie.
