Default Removing old alarm system

I just bought a used hatch that had an alarm in it. The owner told me about the alarm and that he had it unhooked for some reason. I dont know what model it is, pretty sure it is cheap one.

I wanted to know what to look for if I were to remove it. I want to remove it to lose unnecessary weight and just make my car less cluttered. What parts am I lookin to remove? I know there is a siren because i can see that in the engine bay, but what other components should I look for?

its not so easy to remove an alarm..you're better off just leaving it or getting a new one..my friend installs alarms..and i asked him about removing the one he installed...he told me its not so easy...everything is spliced into...and conncected together...its not what you think..just clip the wires and take out the brain of the alarm...its all connected...

So I should just leave it and when i get a new one they can remove parts of the old one? I know it would be really hard to remove all the wiring but stuff like the siren and other larger objects should be easy right?

Even with soldering a cut starter wire (from a SK) it should take you less than 15 minutes to remove it all.

start at the brain, and trace every wire to where it goes, cut it where it jons the factory wire and then tape up the factory wire.

I'd do that before you get a new one put in, as lazy installers have been know to just attach the new wires to the old ones... *cough, hack, cough*

good luck...you'd really have to know what you're doing to remove an alarm...its not as simple as cutting away at wires...the way my friend hooked my alarm up was no half-*** job...he didn't just splice into wires...i asked him to remove my alarm...and said it was a lot of work...thats just what i was told..but if you want to try to do it...go right ahead..just be careful on what you cut!

Thanks for the info. I have a feeling that the old alarm job was just half assed and I will be able to remove most of the stuff, if not all the wiring.

DEPENDS ON THE ALARM. If you have just the basic alarm system with no extra features than it's probably like 15mins max to remove. If you have like say a Clifford Concept 600/Intelliguard 9000 or Avant Guard 4, then those are the pain in the *** the remove since they come with a lot of features which requires much more wiring then your basic alarm.
