Remote wire/turn on issue

I'm running an Alpine deck, 2 amplifiers and an EQ and have no sound. If I bypass the EQ and run everything from my deck it's fine. I have the remote wire from my deck connected to the remote for amp 1 and also to the remote for the EQ. Amp 2 remote is daisy chained to amp 1.
Everything seems to power up fine. The EQ and amps only turn on when the deck is powered but I still can't get sound through the EQ. I've checked all RCA cables and nothing is wrong there. I have yet to test for 12v on the EQ remote wire.
If the remote wire on the EQ is bad (or voltage insufficient), would it even turn on? I've read in other posts that using a relay works and that I can also use another source (accessory, ignition, empty spot). But the puzzling thing is that everything worked fine before I sautered it up. I've triple checked everything and nothing seems out of place.
Any suggestions?

If the EQ is "lighting up" I would assume it's turning on, however I would check, with multimeter, power and ground for the EQ, also replace the fuse, even if it looks good.
I have run into a few amps that the turn on lead was connected to an "on" LED on the amp, and even though there was no amp main power, the on light still turned on, [dumb design].
What kind of EQ, [make and model]?94

that is a dumb design huh. well the amps do turn on and work because when I bypass the EQ it's all good. By bypass I mean connect the F/R/SW rca's directly to my deck instead of from the EQ. And in doing that I didn't disconnect any power/ground/remote wires from the EQ.
the EQ is a cheap Clarion EQS746 that a friend had around. I want to play with my high range as the tweets tend to be harsh at high volumes.
I'll test with a multimeter and replace the fuse as well. Just trying to determine if the EQ still works.

I understand what you mean by "bypass" and it eliminates everything except the EQ as the problem.
Hint... if you want to take the "edge" off your tweeters lay a piece of felt in front of it, the thicker the felt the more attenuation you get, I have done it for a few customers that didn't like how "bright" the tweeters where.

nice, thanks for the tip! I was eventually going to ask about reducing output from the tweets via resistors but a piece of felt sounds like a nice idea. i'll test the wiring with mutlimeter tonight and see if that turns up anything.
