Default Refurbished cd payers

What does it mean when a cd player is "refurbished" or "reconditioned"? I see them on ebay all the time for a lot less money and would get one if I knew it was not defective. Does anyone know?

It means that they have been repaired back to original condition. Warranty is also different. I had a refurbished Pioneer for about two years and I never had any problems with it.

I was going to ask the same question. There is an Alpine refurb I want to buy but was worried about buying it.

Lets say I didn't know if was refurbished. Would I be able to tell by opening the box?
