Sound wise I doubt you will notice a difference. If the question is going throught your head then I would return and get the proper size because it will always be stuck in your head. If your like me this will eventually drive you nutz until it's perfect.

nsxxtreme is correct you probably will not be able to tell the diff. however if you wind up the extra into a coil, you may run into problems, and there is always the problem of what to do with extra wire.

The rule of thumb is, keep all wiring/cables as short as possible, a little slack, [for servicing] is a good idea though.

Getting the right length on power and speaker wire is never a problem, but unless you are custom terminating your "patch cords" getting the right length can be a problem, but you are better off being 3 ft too long then 1/16" too short, putting stress on the RCA inputs on an amp is not a good idea, it will damage something eventually, bumps in the road and vibration are not your friend. 94

Alway make sure you leave enough slack behind the deck tho. Guys how many times have you gone to pull out a customers deck that had no slack on the RCA's. Damn thats annoying and a pain in the *** to get them reconnected.

nsx extreme did. BUt he meant it would be harder for a thief to take it. Sorry but no, most thieves are just ripping like hell, rca's come out pretty easily when you think about it.

Well as far as the original post goes, I would just get the shorter RCA's and use a cable strecher if you need to get some extra length on them. If you dont have a cable strecher or dont know where to get one call Lenny, Hes Best Buy's District 4 D.I.S.T. and my former GM. He knows where to get them.

Think before you speak. And I never said it was impossible.

Cable stretcher Yikes I'll make sure I never go to best buy...
I would rather remove the ends cut to proper length, then replace the ends then stretch a cable.

Stretching a cable defeats the manufacturers intended use. I can think of many other reasons not to stretch a cable.

nah cable strechers are great. The science behind them is amazing. You should look into it.

There is no science in them... you stretch a cable an what happens? If you stretch it, the cable must shrink in diameter. Where do you think the extra length comes from?

There are problems with this. When RCA's are made it is usually of a very fine multistranded center wire. You have no way of knowing if any of the wires break. When it is stretched you reduce the diameter of the cable. You also have reduced the insulation thickness. In the end the electrical characteristic change. It may work but that doesn't mean it's a good thing. If you don't belive me email a highend cable manufacturer and ask them what they think about stretching there cables?

And if there is such a thing, then it's being sold by the same guy that sells ice to Eskimos. 94

yeah, we had our old GM get promoted to DIST and they guy had no car audio back ground at all so to expletive with him all of the shop leads started calling him and e-mailing him asking if we were finally going to get new cable streches for all the shops. Well this guy went to a regional mobile meeting with all the executives and starts bitching at the higher ups that he wants new cable strechers in all of his shops. Well they all laughed at him poked and made fun. He wasnt to happy about it, but we all got a good laugh.

Yeah he kept the job, and I mean as a DIST you really dont need to much about car audio as long as you get feed back on stuff from the shop leads. But for employee moral you always want to see a shop lead get promoted to DIST even though it NEVER happens. Its all politics at level.
