What's a quick way to prevent my car from starting? ie: taking out a particular fuse to prevent thieves from starting the car.

 

take your ecu in with you, of course they can bring there own ecu but obviously thats higly doubtful. Unhook the battery?

 

Install a fuel cut-off switch that is well hidden.

 

undo the vacuum line to the brakebooster

 

this wont stop it from moving, but take a wheel with you

 

Pull the motor.

 

Take the fuse out for the ecu that can be found underneath the hood; its like a 15 or 10 amp.

Or have your alarm disconnect the fuel pump...

True...but I prefer a hidden switch or similar setup instead simply because bypassing the alarm can make bypassing the fuel kill from the alarm easy. Instead, layer your security to buy time against a possible thief.

 

There is a plug from under the hood that you can pull out and the car can't be started without it. PM me if you wanna know where it is. I take mine out if I am going to be in the mall or at the movies or whatever for a long period of time.

Yes, along with an autolock. Unless your car is something a thief really wants, he may see it and notice an autolock and move on to a different car. It works as a deterrent and as an anti-theft device.

seriously. how about making your car look as stock as possible? make your car look so plain, that a thief moves on to something else.

 

I don't think most enthusiast are into stock cars. You just have to take major caution to protect it whe you do make it eye candy for thieves. You have to think about all the ways to make them spend extended amounts of time gettting your car. Right now I have kill switches for the fuel pump, fuel injectors, battery, starter, ignition, computer, and alternator. It's been attempted before, but never stolen and they are hidden so well that they could never find out. Dome light switch, radio has to be on in order to turn the fuel injectors on, etc...

 

hook up a couple of kill switches to ignition

have one that can be turned off and on, and have one momentary open, where u have to push/flick the switch while starting your car.

 

i tihnk alot of thiefs also go for stock cars.. so they can get the motor..

I don't think there is such a thing. Everywhere I deem easy to reach would NOT be well hidden.

 

Apparently you didn't read my post above. Well hidden doesn't mean they have to be toggle switches. You can use existing switches to run these kill switches. Like I said above, dome light switch, radio, a/c controls, cruise switch, Hidden switch in the column that activates when the steering wheel is tilted down and is off when it's back up. All of these are well hidden kill switches in multiple places am I not correct?

Plain view kill switches. heh heh How about rigging it up where you have to push in the proper sequence of all these switches to get the car to start? LOL!

Wouldnt that require a ton of relays? You can't run a lot of current through the factory controls because they are only meant to handle X amount of amps and over time or even right away they could fail on you. I thought about doing this myself but didnt get around to it yet.

 

Not really. he really simple ones like the fuel cut off and ignition can be run off of factory wiring because they draw the same amount of amps as the compnents that you connect them to.

 

not really, I've heard of peoples switches failing that were using 15-20 amp rated switches. I put in a 25 and so far so good. The component switches are probably much less than that since honda probably designed them as just a switch and not a path for a lot of current to run through.

 

check the amperage of your fuel pump and ignition. I can guarantee that you can run certain things off the factor wiring.

NIce idea, kinda like a code box they used in the movie "The Transporter" I wonder if you could do it that way, with a computerized numberical (and alphanumeric for more security) keypad....are those even made/available??

And sorry, I didn't scroll all the way down, 4udahat....Those do sound like well "hidden" even though they are right in front of their eyes. One factor does remain though, people will start asking questions when they notice you doing stuff right before the car starts....

Well, here's a quick example. I highly doubt that the hazard lights or cruise control unit use as much amperage as a fuel pump.
