Default Problem w/ Alpine CD changer

I bought my car 2.5 years ago with an Alpine CHM-S601 6-disc changer already installed in the hatch, connected to the factory tape deck. It never had problems playing CD-R's until just a few months ago. Now it has a very hard time starting a CD-R playing, especially when it's colder (below 50, in the mornings, etc). The display will just sit showing 1-0 meaning disc 1 track 0 forever... eventually it might change to 1-1, but it still won't play. A little while later it might start playing, or sometimes I might have to bump it to track 2 to make it play. Anybody have any ideas? I tried using one of those CD lens cleaner discs (w/ the tiny brush on the CD) but that didn't work.

It could be a couple of things that are causing the changer to mal-function.
- the temp at which it operates could be a factor
- the laser could be out of alignment causing the changer to no "read" your CDR's

Just a couple of thoughts
