Default porting

i have been told that making a port is verry difficult if you dont know how to do it right. Well how do you determin where, how big, and how many ports? and what will happen if you make a port wrong, how will you know if its as good as it gets?

look at the specs for your sub woofer, most subs come with little sheets that give dimensions for boxes with ports or sealed boxes

You have obviously never heard a properly designed ported enclosure. I will leave it at that.

BTW, to the original poster, stay away from prefabricated ported enclosures. Those do sound like ***.

No, it just sounds like from the original post that the author is not too knowledgable on the subject and because of that, it may be easier for them to not go ported. I know from personal experience what a pain a ported enclosure can be. There is no doubt. They are vey weird, a ported enclosure in one car can sound ompletely differnt in another car, that is why when I went ported with my last subs, I started with the manufacturers specs for a ported enclosure, and the 9 enclosures later, I was happy.

To the original poster, if you have the time/money to invest in a project like this, then by all means go for it, but just remember, it is not as easy as bulding an enclosure to specs, and then throwing in some ports.

Damn, 9 enclosures

I also have spent hours sometimes designing an enclosure. I may run through dozens of models until I decide on one that should sound the way I want it, and fit in my car.

You are right about it being simpler for him, but *in bernie mac voice* gotta learn.

True, I just wanted to let him (I wrongly assum it's him) know that it can be extremely difficult.

If I wanted to go ported again, I would do it in a second, just because I enjoy the work, but some people don't, especially not if they are paying someone else to do it.
