Please help an audio newbie with a Infinity sub.
Alrite, I am kind of dissappointed with my Infinity sub. because i've read a lot of review and a lot of people said Infinity hits hard, can hear the bass half mile away etc..I also heard someone with a lower level Infinity sub across the street when i was sitting in my car.But when i installed mine, i found that it hits hard, but only listening from inside, when i step out of the car and close the door, i dont really hear the bass and other people dont even notice that i have a sub in my trunk. i just want to know it is the problem of my box, trunk or the sub.? i though it is the problem with the sealed box at the beginning, so i decided to port it, but i am still having the same result. any help would be cool!
here's my setup, 93 Civic Hatch with a RF 401S amp and Infinity 10VQ subwoofer with a 0.66 Cubic feet box.

you've got the right size box. The problem is your car. It's too good at holding in the sound. If you want everyone to know you've got a sub, take out the trunk interior and sound deadoning material.
hey, are you using a single sub? i think your problem is your ported box, coz it is too small for a 10 inch ported box & 0.66 cu.ft is only for a sealed box. Use a 1.25 cu.ft for your infinity's . Next is maybe your system is underpower, coz your infinity can handle up to 1600 watts so use a bigger amp like the JBL PX600.2... & before i forgot, here are the box volume of your sub 0.33-1.00 cu.ft for sealed & 1.25-2.50 cu.ft for ported box
yeah, you can keep your trunk opened and also print out an "I have an Inf sub" ad and post i around the block. And then time how fast it gets stolen

Seriously, who gives a f what it sounds like to the outside world? SPL pros say: the more you hear from outside, the more you miss inside. Sounds quite logical to me

You guys are so cool. Thanks for all the replys. Yeah i think the size of the box is the problem too...which brand do you guys recommand?mine is a subzone right now. What about Q-Logic? So what about the slot ported? it claim to be the deepest bass box out there on ebay? Any idea?
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

seriously, grow up
its not your box, as stated above its your car
ever been to an spl contest...you know why the windows are 3 inches thick? and why they are barely audible from outside? but if you step inside your likely to die?
i have two inifinity subs, i dynamated the living **** out of my trunk and my car, can barely hear it from outside, sounds like an orchestra inside.....
everytime i see some kid drivin around with bass that can be heard from 2 miles away, the only thought going through my head is...what a ****** tool. Not damn hes got a nice system.

Hmm, wouldn't dynamating your trunk make the sub sound louder outside? My friend dynamated his car, he has 1 JL , and it got even louder when you are outside. Maybe if you were to open ur windows, like during the summer, then would your car be heard from far away? I have one kicker L7, and I already got in trouble with the law for "Noise pollution" so im trying to keep it as loud inside as i can, and as quiet as i can outside.

Looks like ported enclosure is not a good option though, since the peak output will be at 35Hz (if not lower). That's a bit too low, there's practically no music there.
Plus, I've calculated that the port will have to be over 40 inch long.
For a sealed box design here's what my BassBox 6.0 suggests: 0.482 cu.Ft
I've tried bigger boxes, like 1.25 cu.ft, the difference is almost unnoticeable.
So, as teamKamote mentioned earlier anything within 0.33-1.00 cu.ft will do.
Good luck.

I am looking at the Subzone Slot vented box or a Q-Logic vented. But like Olegus said, its not gonna make big difference.....so...
i really don tknow what to do.
One more question, the bass i love is DEEP bass, those bass really goes into your heart. not just shake shake. Are those sealed or vented?? Thanks

I can mail you a complete layout on a vented box for your sub and you'll see that it can only exist in theory. Ported boxes HAVE to be built correctly and tuned carefully to work. Otherwise you'll end up having way less bass than you get from a sealed box.
As for "deep" bass, it doesn't only depend on a box. For instance, i'm running a single alpine 12 inch in a sealed box powered by Soundstream Van Gogh amp. Before I had a simple Power Acoustik and when I switched to the VGA it has made a whole lotta difference. I just couldn't beleive it. So it might be an amp problem too. Anyway, before spending $ on boxes that are crap anyway I'd probably recommend playing around a bit with what you already have. See if the bassboost (on the amp) is on. If it has variable freq. control try tweaking it. Try repositioning the sub in the trunk and so forth.
But if you're looking for a REALLY deep bass, a pair of 15 inch will deliver. But be prepared to spend at least a grand (including a serious amp), pyle-shmyle won't do

that amp is also a 250w x 1 @ 4ohm if i believe..which although is a lot of power, might not be enough - or could have its gains and crossover set incorrectly to match your headunit.
I personally run an infinity 12.1d - at 550 w (2ohm off an RF 500.1bd) I've also had tons and tons of sound deadning work done and I also can't hear too much outside - but like others have commented, inside it's a symphony and is clear on the inside - and thats how it should be.
your box size seems alright for the subs.

Infinity kappa's are the best speakers, in my opinion, that come with a single voice coil. I can't give any advice that the others haven't already given. Good luck dude.
